Short-Term Program
1 Who can apply ?
- Researcher who holds a doctorate degree within 6
years - prior to the fellowships commences or be
enrolled - in a doctoral course and be scheduled to
receive a Ph.D. within 2 years - Arrangement of research plan with Japanese
host - researcher(s) in advance is needed
2 How long can I stay in Japan ?
15 days to 11 months

- Japanese host researcher applies to JSPS through
- the university or the research institution
- b) Overseas researcher applies through
nominating authorities of their home country

- A round-trip air ticket
- A monthly allowance \ 382,000 or \ 350,000
- A settling-in allowance \ 200,000 (Only for
Fellows with a tenure of four or more months) - An annual domestic research travel allowance \
58,500 - A monthly research support allowance \ 81,000
- Overseas travel accident and sickness insurance

- A settling-in allowance \ 200,000
- An annual domestic research travel allowance \
58,500 - Overseas travel accident and sickness insurance
coverage - Research grant to cover collaborative
research-related - expenses up to \ 1,500,000
14Materials to be submitted (Postdoctoral
Fellowships)
1) Application form (research data) written by
each candidate 2) A letter of
acceptance/invitation from the candidates
prospective host researchers in Japan, stating
that he/she accepts the candidate at
his/her institution 3) A letter of
reference/recommendation from the
candidates current or previous supervisor (not
from his/her prospective host researcher in
Japan) 4) A copy of the candidates doctoral
degree certificate. 5) Supplementary documents
(if necessary)

JSPS does not find or introduce host researchers
(1) Contact your Japanese host researcher!
