the prostitute consid-ered righteous for what she
did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent
them off in a different direction? As the body
without the spirit is dead, so faith without
deeds is dead.
6What lessons can we learn from Rahab
A. The glory of Gods mercy He spared her in
spite of her harlotry lying.
--It was the faith she demonstrated with her
works which justified her (with the assump-
tion she drastically changed once living with
the Israelitesnot that God would justify her
sins). --She was saved in spite of her sins.
B. Whatever ones past, after conversion can
come a wonderful future. Her ensuing years
were blessed --lived among Gods
chosenmarried Salmon --became an ancestress
of King David of Jesus Christ --God saved
her from death, placed her among His children,
enlightened and instructed her, brought her
into the royal line, and gave her a part
in Christ.
7What lessons can we learn from Rahab
C. She is an example of one who comes from a
depraved background, deprived of Gods
truth, but who responds by faith when Gods
evidence is presented.
D. She was willing to reject her own people
and culture, in order to serve the one true
God.
E. She is an example of the type of people
Jesus came to save the tax- collectors and
harlots will enter the kingdom of God before
you (the Jews religious leaders), Mt.2131-32
F. She reminds us that in the middle of sin
destruction, Gods salvation still is
available.
8What lessons can we learn from Rahab
G. She appears to be the only one of all her
people to have rejected her own gods and
culture, based on the evidence she had.
Didnt all the people of Jericho know the same
things she knew? Couldnt they all have asked
for a chance to talk with Joshua and to
convert to Jehovah worship? What was it about
her that made her respond so valiantly to the
opportunity, when no one else did?
9 Rahab a woman with a wicked past, who heard
the evidence of Jehovahs
greatness, realized the weakness of her own
gods, believed in the God of Israel, proved
her faith by pro- tecting the Hebrew
spies, was greatly rewarded by Godbeyond what
anyone might have imagined, and became a
wonderful example of how Gods grace will save
any sinner who comes to Him by faith.
