3
Introductions
  • Head Coach is Coach Schaefer (coach throws and
Pole Vault, I can be contacted via the MCC
website, then athletics, then Track and Field
(aschaefer5_at_netzero.net). This is my 7th year
with the track team and my 4th as head coach. I,
along with your other coaches ALL do this because
we enjoy it and enjoy being with you.
  • Coach Lussier will coach distance and jumps
  • Coach Hals will coach sprints and relays
  • Coach Suppa will coach hurdles

4
Practice Times
  • Track practice starts at 330. Allows you to get
extra help after school, make up tests, do
    homework etc.
  • This is a Varsity Sport. We will practice 5
times a week. In the event of rain, we will meet
    on the back patio.
  • If you do not practice, you will not compete.
Unauthorized absence will not be excused. See
Coach Schaefer for list of authorized absence.

5
Proper Dress
  • A decent pair of running shoes (not too old) is
required, you will probably want to purchase
spikes for meets once we (together) decide on
    your events.
  • Throwers will need OLD tennis/basketball shoes
(sole worn down) or throwing shoes (they start at
    about 60)
  • Shirts or singlets will be worn at all times
including meets. If the weather is cold, plan to
run in sweats. If hot have shorts and t-shirt.
Not jewelry, ipods, mp3 players, or cell phones.

6
Hydration and Nutrition
  • Hydration water will be available before,
during and after practice. However, the time to
hydrate is during the day with juices, water and
sports drinks. Not with coffee, tea or soda,
    these are diuretics.
  • Nutrition It is time to start eating smart!
Your body will burn what you put in, but if you
want the energy to compete and have good
workouts, eat fruits, vegetables, pasta, lean
meats. Cut out the sugar, fried foods. If you
are hungry after school, bring a light snack. Do
not show up to any practices having just eaten at
the all you can eat buffet. Also, please do NOT
skip meals. Showing up to practice starved
keeps you from concentrating and your body from
    performing.

7
Paperwork
  • FHSAA paperwork is due this week. This includes
your physical and your competition waiver
  • Coach Schaefer paperwork is also required. This
primarily gives me ALL possible phone numbers to
reach a parent or guardian if required
  • Pay to play is 100

8
Discipline
  • If you have any issues or needs, please see your
    coach, or Coach Schaefer.
  • If you or your parents have a complaint or
problem, please see Coach Schaefer. In the next
few weeks, I will have a meeting with the
    parents.
  • Athletes will be respectful to their coaches and
to their fellow athletes. Respect includes
coming to practice on time and wearing proper
    clothes, ready to work out.
  • Disrespect, fighting, cursing/yelling will not be
    tollerated. Punishments for all transgressions
will be in the form of running, pushups, sit ups,
    or expulsion.

9
Meet Schedule
  • Meet Schedule will be posted in a week or so.
Still trying to fit in meets.
  • Workouts Coaches will have the workouts.
Lifting will begin on Wednesday, but will be
planned for Mon, Wed and Friday.

10
Basic Techniques/Rules
  • Distance running should not be done on your toes.
Your heal should strike and roll to your toes.
Sprints (400M and less) are done on your
    toes/balls of your feet.
  • Your coaches will discuss basic techniques for
the individual events during those events.
  • Weight room - NEVER work out by yourself. You
are not allowed in the weight room at MCC without
a coach. You MUST ALWAYS have a partner/spotter.
Techniques for the lifts will be
    discussed/demonstrated on Wednesday.
