2Woodward Effect What is it?
- Its a natural, though obscure outcome of
Einsteins Special Relativity Theory (SRT). - Stipulates that mass fluctuations (time averaging
to zero) occur when a time rate of change of
energy density (dP/dt) (Power) or the time rate
of change of mass density, rho, (dp/dt) occurs in
any object. - Generation of mass fluctuations (mf) in an
objects rest mass with respect to the very
distant matter of the universe is the key to
understanding the Woodward Effect.
3Woodward Effect (cont.)
- Also based on Machs Principle (MP) i.e., the
supposition that all Inertial Reaction Forces
(IRF) are caused by Faster Than Light (FTL) or
superluminal like interactions of a mass with all
of the other distant matter in the universe in an
atemporal or timeless interaction. - IRF interactions are modeled as kinks or
non-linear disturbances in the attendant
gravitational fields that propagate into the
future past via retarded advanced fields at
the speed of light.
4Woodward Effect (cont.)
- The effect is a gravitational analog of
electromagnetic radiation reaction, the
seemingly anomalous forces generated by time
varying acceleration of electrically charged
particles. - In 1989, Woodward, using the forerunner work of
Mach, Sciama and Nordtvedt derived an equation
with transient terms which shows that
non-constant accelerations relative to the stars,
evoke a time varying energy/mass density in a
test mass (mass fluctuations) apart from its rest
mass. - When a test mass is accelerated, a transient
reduction in mass occurs and when the test mass
is decelerated, a transient increase in mass
occurs.
5Woodward Effect (cont.)
- The Woodward Effect DOES NOT violate the
principles of conservation of energy momentum,
it merely expands the boundary of the System
Box. - John G. Cramer said Thus, Woodwards effect
implicitly assumes an immediate non-local
momentum transfer between the varying mass of
interest and the rest of the mass of the
universe. - J. F. Woodward said When energy in the
(gravitational) field and distant matter is taken
into account, we may reasonably expect that
conservation laws, instant-by-instant arent
violated.
6Woodward Effect (W-E)What is it?
- Four years ago I was in search of a viable
approach to Propellantless Propulsion. In the
U-of-H library, I stumbled across the papers of
one Dr. James F. Woodward out of California State
University, Fullerton (CSUF) campus. - These papers, dating back to 1982, led me on a
trail that introduced me to the wonders of GRT
spacetime and the possibility that my search for
a P-P approach had finally been found. - So, what is the Woodward Effect?
7W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- Its an non-obvious prediction of Einsteins
Special Relativity Theory (SRT), General
Relativity Theory (GRT), Machs Principal on the
nature of Inertia, Quantum Mechanics (QM) and the
ADM atomic model referring to the negative bare
mass solution for the nature of atomic particles.
- These theoretical elements can, when taken
together in a synergistic way, describe the
nature of Gravitational / Inertial (G/I) effects
and contain the underlying basis for the W-E.
8W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- In 1989, Woodward, using the forerunner work of
Mach, Sciama and Nordtvedt, derived an equation
with transient gravitational potential terms
which shows that accelerations of mass relative
to the stars, evoke a time varying energy/mass
density in the rest mass of the accelerated
object (Woodwards Mass Fluctuations). - This effect seems to utilize a gravitational
analog of electromagnetic radiation reaction,
the seemingly anomalous forces generated by time
varying acceleration of electrically charged mass
particles.
9W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- Woodwards theoretical work implies that positive
energy and non-zero momentum and energy
(Momenergy) are being extracted from the future
for use in the present. - To us, this looks like an engine creating a flow
of negative energy into the future via kinks in
the gravitational (spacetime) field. These
gravitational kinks propagate forwards and
backwards in time at the velocity of light c,
producing the retarded / advanced interactions
with matter along the future lightcone.

11W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- NOTE Gravitational energy is negative in nature,
(Peters) since work is liberated when gravitating
objects approach each other and work must be done
to separate them. - Another way of looking at Woodwards theory is
using the Wheeler-Feynman Emitter - Absorber -
Transaction (WF-EAT) interpretation of radiation
reaction forces. - This WF-EAT viewpoint allows one to see how all
the mostly distant matter in the universe can act
in unison to generate the magnitude of inertial
reaction forces we experience every time we
accelerate a mass.
12Wheeler-Feynman E-A-T
Figure 1 Minkowski diagram showing an
emitter-absorber transaction (E-A-T). The single
vertical line indicates emitter or absorber is in
a state of low energy, while the double vertical
line indicates a higher energy state. Waves
produced by the emitter and absorber will lie
along the diagonal light-like world line, but
here the emitter waves are indicated
schematically by the red sinusoidal curves.
Similarly, waves produced by the absorber are
indicated schematically by the blue sinusoidal
curves. Retarded waves are drawn as solid
curves, while advanced waves are shown as dashed
curves. As indicated, advanced waves before the
emission event and retarded waves after the
absorption event are 180o out of phase and will
cancel, while the advanced and retarded wave in
the interval between the emission and absorption
events are in phase and will reinforce.
13W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- The W-E stipulates that these Mass Fluctuations
(time averaging to zero) and the always negative
transient weight reductions occur whenever a time
rate of change of energy density (dE/dt) and/or a
time rate of change of mass density rho, (dr/dt)
is induced in a mass. - Generation of these two types of Mass
Fluctuations in an objects rest mass with
respect to the distant matter of the Universe is
the key to understanding the W-E. - These induced Mass Fluctuations also provide a
means for transferring Momenergy from the
Universes Far Off Active Mass (FOAM) to-or-from
the local accelerated mass.
14W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- The W-E is described by a partial differential
equation with the Gradient of the gravitational
potential f being equated to - The first right hand side (RHS) term is a
gravitational density constant. - The second RHS G/I term time averages to zero
- The always negative third RHS G/I term (the
exotic G/I matter generator) of the above
equation can be used to implement a UFG utilizing
the W-Es mass fluctuations.
15Mass Fluctuations The key to W-E
The predicted mass fluctuations for an
accelerated ion is a higher order radiation
reaction type of effect. Since it displays
Lorentz-Dirac behavior, it seems it's consistent
with energy and momentum conservation.
Although the effect doesn't vanish for constant
accelerations, even in the instantaneous rest
frame, that doesn't necessarily mean that we can
conserve energy and momentum locally. But that
shouldn't be too surprising, for here we're
dealing with an explicitly non-local interaction
involving the most distant matter in the
universe. When energy in the field and distant
matter is taken into account, we may reasonably
expect that conservation laws, instant-by-instant,
aren't violated. (J. F. Woodward) NOTE 1. X
distance, X-dot velocity, X-2dot
acceleration, X-3-dot time rate of change of
acceleration 2. The above mass
fluctuation figure on the right shows the
time-averaging-to zero part of the W-E.
16Propellantless Propulsion (P-P) Things to Look
For
- Does the P-P rely on local or remote (inside or
outside the SRT light cone) Momenergy exchanges?
- For the W-E, Momenergy exchanges are Outside the
SRT lightcone. - How does the scheme account for coupling to the
distant matter in the universe (relative to which
all accelerations take place)? - Follow me and we shall try to see
17How does the W-E link with the FOAM?
- The W-E utilizes a gravitational analog of
electromagnetic radiation reaction, the
seemingly anomalous forces that are generated by
time varying acceleration of electrically charged
ions. - These Inertial Radiation Reaction Forces (IRR-F)
are caused by instantaneous G/I interactions of a
mass with the mostly distant matter in the
Universe or the Universes FOAM, in an apparent
atemporal or timeless manner. - But, how can this be?! QMs Spooky actions at a
distance, GRTs Block Universe, or String
Theorys 11-dimension universe come to our rescue.

19W-E How does it Link? (Cont.)
- IRR-F interactions are modeled as G/I kinks or
non-linear disturbances in the mass attendant
gravitational fields that propagate into the
future past via Advanced Retarded
GravInertial fields at the speed of light. - These G/I kinks momentarily disconnect the
fundamental nuclear particles G/I mass from the
rest of the FOAM, (Refer to the ADM atomic model)
thus reducing the apparent rest mass of the ion.
This results from Machs definition of inertial
mass used by Woodward.

22Propellantless PropulsionThings to Look For in
the W-E
- How are the minuscule alleged effects (normally
never seen) promoted into effects large enough to
have practical value? - BTW Woodward estimates, based on straight GRT
calculations, predict that for G/I effects to be
seen in the laboratory in a usable way, that they
would have to be at least fifteen orders of
magnitude larger than currently predicted by
standard GRT.
23W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- Most objects around us have an Avogadro number
(6.023 x 1023) worths of atoms in them. If we
need 1015 higher atoms to get the G/I effects we
need for usable P-P work, that means we have to
tap 1038 to 1040 atoms to get the job done. - If the Universe has 1080 atoms available for the
job, which is the estimated number of atoms in
the Universe, the G/I conversion efficiency
required would 1040/1080 x 100... Wow! You
dont need a very efficient conversion method /
UFG device to get this job done!!
24W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- Now, if we admit to the effectively instantaneous
G/I Momenergy transfers, mediated by QM or GRT
Spooky actions at a distance means, this allows
one to see how the mostly distant matter in the
universe can act IN UNISON to generate the
required magnitude of inertial reaction forces we
experience every time we accelerate a local mass
or when one of Woodwards UFG devices start their
mass reduction oscillations.

27W-E What is it? (Cont.)
- In summation Atomic G/I forces are very small,
but the total mass of the universe is very, very
large. If one can harness most of the universes
mass particles G/I forces at the same time,
large local G/I affects can be expected and
expressed. - Woodward has also predicted that the W-Es exotic
mass production can scale with the cube of the
operating frequency and the square of the input
power. This implies that total weightlessness
for a UFG can be had for electrical power inputs
on the order of 1.0 kW or less if the appropriate
operating conditions are met.
28Propellantless PropulsionThings to Look For in
the W-E
- How is momentum conserved?
- You open up the thermodynamic and Momentum
Exchange systems box to admit all the players. - How? You can assume that gravitational/inertial
like Wheeler/Feynman Radiation Reaction forces
can effectively convey momentum instantaneously
throughout the Universe, or you can take the view
that a local momentum flux can be established
with the ambient/local standing wave
gravitational field that permeates the entire
universe.
29W-E Momentum Conservation
- The Woodward Effect DOES NOT violate the
principles of conservation of energy momentum,
it merely expands the boundary of the
thermodynamic System Box in both space and time
to include the Universes FOAM. - John G. Cramer said Thus, Woodwards effect
implicitly assumes an immediate non-local
momentum transfer between the varying mass of
interest and the rest of the mass of the
universe. - J. F. Woodward said When energy in the (G/I)
field and distant matter is taken into account,
we may reasonably expect that conservation laws,
instant-by-instant arent violated.

Superluminal Past Future
31W-E Theory Summation (cont.)
- Every time a mass is pushed (accelerated), it
pushes back with an equal but opposite reaction
force (Newtons Third law) with a non-zero time
delay. This G/I reaction force is called
inertia. GRT show us why this could be caused by
remote G/I forces rather than local electrical
ZPE forces. - Dr. Woodward has produced apparent inertial mass
reductions of up to 2.3 grams, which is 15 of
the active PZT mass in one of his UFG devices
while using only 220 watts of 73 kHz ac power. - The Woodward Effect could then provide
Propellantless - Propulsion for any vehicle
with large forces in the range of tens to
thousands of Newtons with a single device.
32Non-Linear Wormhole formation Control
You don't have to worry about that. It's
non-linear, catastrophic wormhole formation that
you have to worry about. And that's produced by
gravitationally decoupling local stuff from the
FOAM. Failsafe mechanisms will be very tricky,
but perhaps unnecessary if this can't be done.
