- Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS I)
- Learning Behavior Specialist - Elementary
Education (LBS I - ELE)
This certification qualifies individuals to teach
children with a wide range of disabilities LD,
ED, MR, Autism, TBI, orthopedic, and Other Health
Impairments (not including hearing and vision).
If you want to make a difference, this is the
major for you!

8Special Programs K - 12

The core courses required to teach at the K - 12
levels are taught through their major department
and the Department of Teacher Education.
Candidates have an advisor in their major as well
as in the Department of Teacher Education.
You can become a Special Programs K 12 teacher
and share your talents with others.
9Field Experiences
- Field experiences begin early. Students can enter
the field as early as the first semester of their
freshman year. - Freshman year- directed observation of 25 hours
in a setting appropriate for the major - Sophomore year- directed observation involves an
in-depth case study of an individual learner - Junior year- Novice Teaching includes planning
and implementing lessons and requires half days
in the schools five days per week for one
semester - Senior year- Student Teaching in local classrooms
all day every day for one semester - All experiences have weekly seminars and are
graded pass/fail.
