• Educational strategies aim to provide a broader
  range of learning opportunities and improving the
  efficiency of schooling (OECD, 2002).
• European Council agreement to reduce this rate to
  no more than 10 by 2010.
• A need for new methodological approaches to work
  with school dropouts to respond to the challenge
  of this European Benchmark for 2010.

RETAIN AIM OBJECTIVES

• to support young people in carrying out their
  educational and vocational plans
• to identify successful experiences and methods
  used in the prevention of dropping out
• to test and further develop best practice
• to develop training sessions that can be offered
  as common European work-shops/training courses or
  to be carried out on a national level
• to develop a manual/hand-book in drop-out
  prevention for teachers, trainers, mentors and
  guidance counsellors
• to set up a European conference on the theme of
  drop-outs to disseminate the results

Target Group Beneficiaries

• The main target group for the project is
  teachers, trainers, mentors and guidance
  counsellors working with young people in
  Secondary Schools or in vocational training.
• The beneficiaries will be young people at risk of
  dropping out from the education and training
  system.

• Coordinator Gothenburg Education Authority
• Company that works in field of leadership
  development and communication. They offer
  coaching, consulting, workshops, seminars and
  training for key competences for both the private
  and public sector including school leaders and
  teachers. They also develop training materials
  related to this field.
• 3 vocational schools that have tried out
  successful methods to retain students

• Between 6.6 - 6.9 unemployment in 20-24 year
  olds

  University of Education a lot of experience
  researching methods of retaining students
• Reykjavick University work to increase
  entrepreneurship and experienced in working with
  at-risk students
