Guided Writing Procedure

• Brainstorm topic with whole class
• Record ideas verbatim on board/overhead/smart
  board
• Construct a map, graphic organizer or outline of
  content
• Individuals write 1 or 2 paragraphs as a first
  draft
• Teacher collects and analyzes using GWP checklist
  p. 230
• Return drafts
• Students revise and resubmit
• Student Read/research to gather additional
  information to include in final draft
• Group discussion to revise original outline
• Students revise and resubmit compositions
