The Comprehensive Plan
2
Todays Objective
  • To understand that the Kingdom of God is not a
narrow, spiritual place, but a comprehensive
reality that brings substantial healing to every
aspect of our lives and every part of creation.

  • Comprehensive
  • This word describes something that is broad,
    all-inclusive, extensive, or complete.

4
Key Words

  • To save or rescue from captivity or bondage
refers to the work of God through Christ to
deliver creation from the bondage and penalties
    of sin.

5
Key Words
  • Sanctify

6
Key Words
  • Secular
  • Things that are of this world and disconnected
from the spiritual realm a notion rejected by
the Bible all things have an ultimate origin and
an ongoing connection to the spiritual realm.

7
Key Words
  • Substantial
  • Something which is mostly finished, but not
fully complete. The Kingdom of God brings
    significant yet not complete (substantial)
healing to things broken by the Fall. It wont be
    finished until Jesus returns.

8
Key Words
  • Vision
  • A future state that must be seen with the eyes
of the mind before it becomes reality. The
biblical concept of the Kingdom of God provides
us with a vision of what the world could be like
if it were healed from the effects of evil.

Key Verses Colossians 115-18
  • 15He is the image of the invisible God, the
    firstborn of all creation.
  • 16For by him all things were created, in heaven
and on earth, visible and invisible, whether
thrones or dominions or rulers or authoritiesall
things were created through him and for him.
  • 17And he is before all things, and in him all
    things hold together.
  • 18And he is the head of the body, the church. He
is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in everything he might be preeminent.

Key Verses Colossians 115-18
  • 15 We look at this Son and see the God who cannot
be seen. We look at this Son and see Gods

and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank
after rank of angelseverything got started in
him and finds its purpose in him.
  • 17 He was there before any of it came into
existence and holds it all together right up to
    this moment.

and holds it together, like a head does a body.

From beginning to end hes there, towering far
    above everything, everyone.

Questions Colossians 115-18
  • How does this passage describe Jesus?
  • What was Jesus role in creation? What does this
    suggest about his authority?
  • Can creation sustain an ongoing existence apart
    from God?
  • What is Christs role in the Church?
  • Over what does King Jesus have supremacy? What
    does this mean?

12
More Key Verses
  • Colossians 115-20
  • Hebrews 11-3 28-9
  • Matthew 2818.
  • Romans 818-22

13
Questions Colossians 115-18
  • How many times do the words all and
    everything appear in these verses?
  • In your own words, how does Christ relate to all
    things?
  • Write down the similar ideas or statements from
    Colossians 115-20 and Hebrews 11-3 28-9. What
    do they say about Christ?
  • Read Hebrews 28 and Matthew 2818. What is
presently under Christs authority and subject to
him? Does everything appear to be under Christs
    authority?

14
Questions Colossians 115-18
  • Four times in this passage, Paul describes
something that is waiting for redemption. What is
it? What does this reveal about the scope of
    Gods redemptive concern?
  • In the past, what happened to creation?
  • How is the present condition of creation
    described?
  • What is the future hope of creation?
  • Who are the sons of God referred to in verses
19 and 21? What will happen to creation when the
    sons of God are revealed?

15
The Fall
  • People with God,
  • People with themselves,
  • People with their neighbors (other people), and
  • People with the rest of creation.
  • What evidence do you see of this brokenness in
your own life, your family, your neighborhood and
    your community?

16
The Kingdom of God
  • Consider the four main relationships that were
affected by the Fall. In what ways have you seen
the Kingdom of God impact these areas and bring
substantial healing in your own life, your
family, your neighborhood and your community?

17
The Secular and the Sacred?
  • Do you tend to categorize your life as either
spiritual or unspiritual? If so, focus on
those areas or things that you tend to view as
unspiritual. How might your behavior in these
areas be affected if you were to see them as
spiritual, and do it all in the name of the Lord
    Jesus?

18
A Practical Response
  • Keep an activities log
  • What is secular and what is sacred?
  • How can you do EVERYTHING with/for/to God?
