How do I say basic numbers?

  • Singles are said as a number (one)
  • Tens are said with singles (twenty one)
  • Hundreds are usually said with their unit(three

How do I say a street address?
  • One-digit and 2-digit numbers are said normally
    (12 twelve 23 twenty-three)
  • For a 3-digit number, say the hundreds, pause,
    then say the 2-digits (321 three twenty-one)
  • For a 4-digit, say the first two as a number,
    then the last two as a number(2431
    twenty-four thirty-one)
  • For 5 or more digits, say each separately(65431
    six-five-four-three-one)
  • Say the full street name(243 Main St. is
    two-forty-three Main Street

  • The area code shows geographic region
  • The exchange shows local area(all 276 numbers
    are RPI)
  • The extension shows specific phone line

  • Area code exchange extension
  • Say area code before the three digits (area
    code five one eight pause two seven six pause
    one two three four)
  • For local numbers, dont say the area codeon
    campus, dont say the exchange
  • Sometimes extensions are said as numbersor as
    two 2-digit numbers(extension twelve
    thirty-four)
