• The first phase involved scanning the historical
  lightship logbooks from
• World Data Center for Oceanography, Silver Spring
  (WDC) archives
• 2. Finland Institute of Marine Research (FIMR) in
  Helsinki, Finland
• 3. Swedish Meteorological and Hydrographic
  Institute (SMHI) in Goteborg, Sweden

The second phase digitized the scanned lightship
images and provided the images and indexes to WDC
on CD-ROM these were forwarded to IMC and loaded
into the WSSRD. The data for all three sources
consists of three main types of data sets 1.
Temperature and salinity from standard depths 2.
Daily surface temperature observations 3. Wind
observations three times per day and accompanying
observations of current speed and direction at
one or more depths

• Swedish Lightship Data
• 1. Scan and digitize the surface, profile, and
  meteorological data contained on the Swedish
  Lightship datasheets to NODCs Ocean Climate
  Laboratory specifications.
• 2. Place the scanned images and digitized
  data on CD-ROM 48,000 sheets).
