Title: V.U.E.S pond habitat

1
V.U.E.S pond habitat
  • Created By K.V and D.T.

2
Focusing Question
  • . Which species are or are not well adapted to
the habitat of the pond in the V.U.E.S outdoor
    classroom?

3
Dragonflies
  • Dragonflies are adapted to the habitat of the
pond because when they are larvae they live in
    freshwater like ponds and streams.
  • When they are adults they are often found in
shallow water except when they go hunting or
    migrate.
  • They are fast fliers so they normally go hunting
in open areas not really around where a lot of
    trees are.
  • adapted

4
Frogs
  • Frogs are well adapted to the pond habitat
because they normally live near fresh water where
they have their eggs in the water and keep them
in a spot where they are safe.
  • They like to eat insects and insects live near
water. They have long tongues that can come out
of their mouth quickly and catch a insect then go
    back in.
  • Adapted

5
Snapping Turtles
  • Snapping Turtles live only in fresh-water or
brackish water. They like muddy bottoms better
with lots of vegetation so they can hide better
    from their predators.
  • They spend almost all of their time in the water
but do not lay their eggs in the sandy soil.
  • adapted

6
Mosquitoes
  • Mosquitoes need still fresh water or slightly
salty water for their larvae to grow but
different species have evolved to use all
    different kinds of water.
  • Some grow in ponds, some in puddles, some in tree
holes, some on swamps and some in salt marshes.
  • adapted

7
Tarantulas
  • The Tarantula prefers to live in dry, well
drained soil. If the soil is suitable, the female
digs a deep burrow which she lines with silk
    webbing.
  • This prevents sand and dirt from tickling in
otherwise she hides in cracks in logs and under
    any loose, lying debris.
  • Not adapted

8
Conclusion
  • So Dragonflies, Frogs, Snapping Turtles and
Mosquitoes are all species that can live in the
pond habitat. They all like fresh water not salt
    water.
  • A tarantula for example is not adapted for the
    pond habitat.
  • You can see that there are different types of
species that are adapted and not adapted for the
    pond habitat.
