Title: OUR SCHOOLYARD HABITAT
1OUR SCHOOLYARD HABITAT
at East Elementary in Greenville, PA
2Spring 2000
In the spring of 2000, we began creating our
schoolyard habitat.
3The area we chose was just a grassy place in the
schoolyard.
4White Rock donated large slabs of rock and
students broke the rocks into smaller pieces.
5The rock was used to build a wall around our
future pond and to border the gardens.
6Students worked hard that spring.
7The garden was planted and mulched and the pond
area was filled with topsoil.
8Our hard work paid off.
Our garden was beautiful!
9Fall 2000
Work began anew in the Fall of 2000.
10Compost bins were added to the habitat.
Leaves were raked and decorations made.
11Our garden was beautiful!
12Winter 2001
Feeding the birds and filling the compost bins
keeps us busy in the winter.
13We installed the pond that spring.
Spring 2001
and a sand pit to track animals.
14White Rock donated a tri-axle load of gravel for
paths and work areas.
15It was hard work spreading the rock!
16After a lot of hard work, our garden was
beautiful again!
17Summer 2001
When we came back to school at the end of the
summer, there was more work to do!
18Even grandparents helped!!
19Soon our garden was beautiful again!
20The PTO added a pavilion to our habitat and we
had a ribbon cutting ceremony.
21The PTO also sold bricks for a walkway from the
pavilion to the habitat.
22Fall 2001
23We are proud of our habitat and we hope you
enjoyed the show!!!!
