Alberta SuperNet
  • We are participating in the Proof of Concept
    stage of the development of a VPN for all Alberta
    Education clients
  • Will eliminate use of the Internet for
    institution to institution communications
  • Transparent to users
  • Project is on-going
  • A similar VPN for VideoConferencing is also being
    developed

POLYCOM Video Conference Equipment
  • VSX 5000 VTX 1000
  • We have purchased a VSX 5000 Video Conferencing
    unit
  • and a VTX 1000 SoundStation Conference phone
  • Will be set up in Conference room initially, can
    be moved to classroom if booked ahead of time.
  • Marriage Family program is using it for classes
    starting Sept 19.

  • Simplified fee structure for student wireless
    rentals
  • Dana Penner will be filling in for Amanda Godin
    while on maternity leave, starting Sept. 22
  • Has D2L experience
  • Alan Kydd will be replacing Brad Dahr to provide
    faculty support for D2L, Turnitin.com etc.

  • GroupWise web access (http//gwmail.cauc.ca/servle
    t/webacc)
  • Allows you to access your e-mail, calendar,
    notes, task list from any Internet connected
    computer with a browser.
  • Password is now integrated with your Novell
    account, is the same and can be changed from the
    Web-mail page.

GroupWise Scheduling
  • GroupWise can be used to schedule meetings and
    resources (laptop loaners, vans, meeting rooms
    etc.)
  • Include the resource in the list of addresses the
    appointment is sent to.
  • Can click BUSY button to check availability for
    the time specified.

  • iFolder (http//ifolder.cauc.ca/welcome/index.htm
    l)
  • Allows secure, encrypted access to files on the
    network server from off-campus.
  • Available by two methods
  • Install the iFolder client on your computer.
  • Use of client ensures a backup copy of files is
    stored locally. (not for public access computers)
  • iFolder web access (link at bottom of CUC main
    page)

  • Allows easy selection and installation of
    additional printers.
  • Use for printing to photocopiers (Advancement,
    Finance, PAA)
  • Scanning to e-mail available from these three
    photocopiers and the Admin. Lab printer
  • Only available on campus

    )
  • Provides a web-interface to upoload/download
    files from your mapped drives on the network.
    Provides access to your H drive from any
    Internet enabled computer.
  • On-Campus Allows access to your mapped drives
    (H, I etc.) from a web interface.
  • Off-Campus - Allows access to your H drive and
    IFolder

  • Preferred method for requesting help and
    technician visits.
  • User can track job progress, change priority,
    leave notes for technician.
  • E-mail notification when status of job changes or
    when job is completed.
  • Users can search Knowledge Base for solutions to
    similar problems.
  • Available on and off campus.
  • Allan Kydd is available for personalized help
    with software (Turnitin.com, D2L, Office
    programs, creating web pages). Request
    appointment through the Help Desk.

  • Plagiarism prevention system
  • Students submit papers on-line through the web
    site, you then see a report showing how much was
    copied form other sources and a link to that
    source.
  • Additional features.
  • GradeMark frees instructors from the limits of
    pen-and-paper grading and gives them the ability
    to mark student work in a unique, paperless
    environment.
  • Peer Review - Students can review and respond to
    their classmates' work online .

  • Additional features
  • With GradeBook, instructors can add in-class and
    homework assignments and even track student
    absences and tardies. With the ability to use a
    customized grading scale for each class, our
    gradebook provides a complete gradebook solution
    that eliminates the need for traditional
    paper-and-pencil gradebooks. Our gradebook also
    features the ability to export grades to an Excel
    file for easy offline grade calculation and
    management.
