Inflorescence Types Inflorescences are the
arrangement of flowers on the plant. Many types
exist, the following is a brief tour of some of
the diversity that exists

Snapdragon dissection. Irregular flower with
superior ovary.

Spike inflorescence Each flower is sessile and
solitary

Spadix a fleshy spike with reduced flowers. The
Spathe is a bract at the base of the
inflorescence. Note the yellow structures at the
base of the spadix, these are likely male flowers.

46 inches tall! The plant is a rare plant of the
Indonesian rain forests

Raceme Each flower is solitary, but supported by
a peduncle

Panicle inflorescence This is an indeterminate
branching raceme.

Receptacle of a head inflorescence with disk
flowers. Receptacle is chaffy. Note that each
disk flower is sessile, has 2 stigmas, and 5
petals.
