Title: The Wholeness Journey Part III
1The Wholeness JourneyPart III
- This presentation is not designed to give you the
formula that will get you whole, but to put you
on the journey to discover Gods custom made plan
for your individual wholeness
2The Truth about Satan
- The root of all sin is the suspicion that God is
not good. - Oswald Chambers
NLT Nahum 17 The LORD is good. When trouble
comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows
everyone who trusts in him.
3The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Satans strategy is to get us to doubt God
- If he succeeds, then our unbelief will create for
him a base of operations within our mind and
eventually our spiritual heart - Recall the fall of man to see his method
NKJ Genesis 31 Now the serpent was more cunning
than any beast of the field which the LORD God
had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God
indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of
the garden'?
4The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- First Satan tries to get Eve to doubt her
knowledge of what God has said and/or to doubt
what Adam told her God said
- Next, Eve adds to Gods command about the
forbidden tree in her reply - Recall, God originally told just Adam
NKJ Genesis 217 "but of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for
in the day that you eat of it you shall surely
die." 18 And the LORD God said, "It is not good
that man should be alone I will make him a
helper comparable to him."
5The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- However, Eve added something to Gods word (i.e.,
nor shall you touch it) when she quoted this
command to Satan
- NKJ Genesis 32 And the woman said to the
serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of
the garden 3 "but of the fruit of the tree
which is in the midst of the garden, God has
said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch
it, lest you die.' - Thus enter man made rules to keep us holy instead
of an intimate relationship with God - This is the root of the fall of mankind
6The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Remember, Adam received the instruction
concerning the two special trees in the garden
before Eve was created from him
- However, when Adam instructed Eve he apparently
thought it necessary to add the admonition to
not even touch the fruit in order to keep them
from violating the command to not eat the fruit - We have a tendency to want the formula for
success rather than taking the time to develop an
intimate relationship with God
7The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- The Pharisees had 613 rules so they would not
violate the Ten Commandments
- Rules free us of the responsibility to learn to
hear from God for ourselves - Instead of asking God concerning a situation we
can simply apply a rule - However, God did not create us to be robots
operating from code (i.e, rules of conduct) - God created us to have an intimate relationship
with Him so he could teach us right from wrong
personally
8The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Recall, there was one thing not good in the
creation - man did not have a helpmate
- Man was created in Gods likeness
- Therefore, we can deduce that it was not good for
God to be alone, too - God created mankind for His helpmate
- Someone to fellowship and share His love with for
all eternity - That is why Christians are called the bride of
Christ and ultimately His wife
9The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- NKJ Genesis 34 Then the serpent said to the
woman, "You will not surely die. 5 "For God
knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes
will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing
good and evil."
- Satan then tries to cause Eve to doubt the
goodness of God by insinuating that He is holding
out on them - you can be like God - NKJ Genesis 3 6a So when the woman saw that the
tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to
the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise,
she took of its fruit and ate.
10The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Eve was deceived into violating Gods command
- NKJ 2 Corinthians 113a But I fear, lest somehow,
as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, - Satan is still using the same threefold strategy
to entice and deceive us into sin - NKJ 1 John 216 For all that is in the world --
the lust of the flesh good for food, the lust
of the eyes pleasant to the eyes, and the pride
of life desirable to make one wise -- is not of
the Father but is of the world.
11The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Eve was deceived into choosing Satan over God
- However, Adam willfully chose his wife over God
- NKJ 1 Timothy 214 And Adam was not deceived, but
the woman being deceived, fell into
transgression. - Perhaps He saw that touching (maybe he forgot
that this was his rule) and eating the fruit
caused Eve no harm
12The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- He did not realize that as the leader the fall of
man was on his actions not Eves
- NKJ Genesis 36b She also gave to her husband
with her, and he ate. - Adam was with Eve while the serpent spoke but
remained silent - Adam, as leader, should have stopped the
conversation by commanding the serpent to go and
coached Eve on Gods word - Adam failed to lead and submitted to his wifes
request to violate Gods word
13The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Mans weakness to the seduction by a woman and
womans weakness to be deceived by Satan is the
basis for the New Testament restrictions on woman
in church leadership positions today
- Woman was created to be the helpmate
- But Eve hurt Adam infinitely by utilizing her God
given beauty to naively seduce him into rebellion
against a Holy God - Nevertheless, Adam chose to sin and lost his job
as ruler of this age to Satan
14The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- This does not mean that women are second class
citizens in the church
- NKJ Galatians 328 There is neither Jew nor
Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is
neither male nor female for you are all one in
Christ Jesus. - It does mean that Christian women are not to
dress and act seductively - Women must be even more conservative when they
are the focus of an audience with men present
15The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Men were made by God to desire women
- Therefore, women have the responsibility to not
cause their brother to stumble in exploiting this
desire by dressing and acting seductively - Men have the responsibility to sanctify this God
given desire for women and honor them by seeing
them as equals in the kingdom of God, thou
typically physically weaker, and not as body
parts to be coveted and selfishly exploited
16The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Men are not to utilize their positional influence
to obtain sexual advantage
- Women are not to utilize their sexual influence
to obtain positional advantage - Husbands are to chose to love their wives as much
as they love themselves (and men love themselves
a lot!) - Wives are to honor and respect their husbands as
God appointed leaders in the marriage - even if
they think they can do it better (like Eve who
was leading Adam)
17The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Read the following article for great insights
concerning the relationship of husband and wife
in marriage
- http//www.middletownbiblechurch.org/homefam/husba
nd.htm - Mankind falls for Satans lies about God , sins,
and dies spiritually (i.e., mans spirit no
longer has direct access to God) - Satan seizes Adams God given authority to rule
Earth and becomes the demigod of this age
18The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Now, everyone that knowingly sins will belong
to Satan and he will be their master
- Adam then blames God and Eve for his sin
- NKJ Genesis 312 Then the man said, "The woman
whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the
tree, and I ate. - Eve admits deception leading to sin
- NKJ Genesis 313 And the LORD God said to the
woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman
said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate.
19The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- All hope for mankind is lost as the desire to sin
will transfer via the DNA of the male
- All born from Adam will desire sin from birth and
they sin the first time they knowingly choose
to disobey God - Realize, we are born with an innocent spirit that
contains the life of God - However, the moment we mature enough to know
right from wrong and choose wrong, we sin and our
spirit is cut off from the life of God - we are
spiritually joined to Satan
20The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Adam, a man without sin, got mankind into this
predicament and only a man without sin can get
mankind out of it
- Unfortunately, there are no perfect men in the
entire universe - However, God announces a secret plan
- NKJ Genesis 315 And I will put enmity Between
you and the woman, And between your seed and her
Seed He shall bruise your head, And you shall
bruise His heel."
21The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- From the DNA of a woman will come one that will
bruise Satans head (i.e., remove his right to
rule mankind on planet Earth)
- God the Father, by His Holy Spirit, will cause a
virgin to become pregnant with Jesus! - This avoids the sinful DNA (seed) of man and God
Himself becomes man in the flesh utilizing the
uncontaminated DNA (seed) of a female
22The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- The first Adam caused the fall of mankind and
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the last Adam, will see
to the destruction of Satan and purchase the
freedom for all mankind
- Jesus, while never stop being God, chose to set
aside the right to use His ability as God and
became a man born of the virgin Mary - Upon the Levitical age of the priesthood, 30
years old, the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus to
empower Him to defeat Satan
23The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Immediately Satan tries to cause Him to doubt
Himself and to prove His relationship with God by
performance ( i.e., a rule based relationship
vice a grace based one)
- NKJ Luke 43 And the devil said to Him, "If You
are the Son of God, command this stone to become
bread." - This was the lust of the flesh as Jesus had
been fasting for 40 days - NKJ Luke 44 But Jesus answered him, saying, "It
is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word rhema - spoken word of God.'
"
24The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- NKJ Luke 45 Then the devil, taking Him up on a
high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the
world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said
to Him, "All this authority I will give You, and
their glory for this has been delivered to me,
and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 "Therefore,
if You will worship before me, all will be
Yours."
- This was the lust of the eyes as Jesus was
being offered the very thing that He came to take
back - the authority over Earth that Satan
usurped from Adam - But he offered Jesus the sin-thetic version
25The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Sin typically involves obtaining something that
God does not mind us having however, not
obtaining it Gods way (i.e., by faith)
- NKJ Luke 48 And Jesus answered and said to him,
"Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You
shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you
shall serve.' - Jesus knew who He was (the Son of God) and that
the authority to rule Earth belonged to a man
that has right standing with God - Jesus the
God-Man qualified!
26The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- We should be as direct when tempted to obtain
things sinfully
- In the
- Authority of the Name of Jesus, by the
- Blood of God who became flesh, through the
- Cross where He bore my curse away, and empowered
by the - Spirit of Holiness that raised Jesus from the
dead - - Satan, get out of my face!
27The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- NKJ Luke 49 Then he brought Him to Jerusalem,
set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said
to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw
Yourself down from here. 10 "For it is written
'He shall give His angels charge over you, To
keep you,' 11 "and, 'In their hands they shall
bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a
stone.' "
- This was pride of life as everyone would see
Jesus floating down from the sky, instead of
falling to His death, and worship Him as a God!
28The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- NKJ Luke 412 And Jesus answered and said to him,
"It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the LORD
your God.' " 13 Now when the devil had ended
every temptation, he departed from Him until an
opportune time. 14 Then Jesus returned in the
power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him
went out through all the surrounding region.
- Jesus passed the test that Adam Eve failed in
the Garden of Eden - Satan had met more than his match and retreated
until a better time
29The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Jesus then demonstrates His dominance over Satan
for approximately three years
- He does this by teaching, then healing the sick,
and casting out demons - NKJ 1 John 38b For this purpose the Son of God
was manifested, that He might destroy the works
of the devil. - NKJ Acts 1038 "how God anointed Jesus of
Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who
went about doing good and healing all who were
oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
30The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- Then Jesus becomes our Sin on the cross, takes
our punishment, and bears our sentence thus dying
in our place and defeats Satan
- NKJ Hebrews 214 Inasmuch then as the children
have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself
likewise shared in the same, that through death
He might destroy him who had the power of death,
that is, the devil, - Jesus dead body was taken off the cross and
buried for three days
31The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- God then raises Jesus from the dead!
- NKJ 1 Corinthians 153 For I delivered to you
first of all that which I also received that
Christ died for our sins according to the
Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He
rose again the third day according to the
Scriptures, - Jesus makes a New Covenant with God the Father,
sealed with His blood, for us! - Now all that realize that they are sinners,
repent, and believe in Jesus will be saved
32The Truth about Satan (cont.)
- NLT 1 John 22 He is the sacrifice for our sins.
He takes away not only our sins but the sins of
all the world.
