The district does not provide funds for the food
service operation out of its general fund. The
operation is overseen by a Food Service
Committee decisions are made by consensus, and
the department must stay financially in the black.

- The department has a staff of 85 employees
- During the 2007-08 school year, they served
- 835,007 student lunches
- 261,990 student breakfasts
4Remember The October Storm?
Operating as a shelter during the October
Surprise from October 15-23, the department
served a total of 4,358 meals.
5Some of Our Accomplishments
- USDA Best Practices Award - 5,000 for Culinary
Camp, an innovative program where staff created
new recipes using government commodities while
developing team building skills
6Lindbergh Elementary NYS Education Departments
Best Practice Award 2007-2008 for promoting
healthy choices/nutrition education.
They also won in the 2005-2006 school year!
7Lindbergh Elementary 3 NYS Education Department
Awards for Best Practice in Improving Cafeteria
Environment
8 Whip Dee Doo Dessert created by Franklins
Pina Walker won a full day of staff development
for the entire department from Rich Products
9Roosevelt Elementary won 5,000 award for
expanding breakfast from the American Dairy
Council. Participation jumped from 50 to 150
students!
10Lindbergh Elementary their Macho Nachos
recipe won 7,000 for cafeteria improvements
11Hamilton Elementary their Pasta Lavista
recipe won 350 towards continuing education
12Both Lindbergh and Hamilton were featured on
local news with anchorwoman Lisa Scott.
