6
Value of a Penny
  • Pennies have a value of .01 each
  • This value is said as one cent
  • A penny is 1/100th of 1 dollar
  • So it takes 100 pennies to equal 1.00
  • Former President Abraham Lincoln appears on the
    front of all pennies.

7
Value of a Nickel
  • Nickels have a value of .05 each
  • This value is said as five cents
  • A nickel is worth 5/100ths of 1 dollar
  • So it takes 20 nickels to equal 1.00
  • Former President Thomas Jefferson appears on the
    front of all nickels.

8
Value of a Dime
  • Dimes are worth .10 each
  • This value is said as ten cents
  • A dime is worth 10/100ths of 1 dollar
  • So it takes 10 dimes to equal 1.00
  • Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt appears
on the front of all dimes.

9
Value of a Quarter
  • A quarter is worth .25
  • This value is said as twenty-five cents
  • A quarter is worth 1/4th of 1 dollar
  • So it takes 4 quarters to equal 1.00
  • Former President George Washington appears on
    the front of all quarters.

10
Addition of Coins
  • One method of adding coins is to think of all
coins in terms of cents and then add like normal
  • For example 10 cents 5 cents 15cents
  • So a dime plus a nickel equals 15 cents, which is
still less than a quarter at 25 cents

11
Addition of Coins
  • Another method of adding coins is to set up the
    question like a Math problem
  • For example .25
  • .01
  • .26
  • This method works well when adding numbers that
    are too high to count

12
Subtraction of Coins
  • One method of subtracting coins is to think of
all coins in terms of cents and then subtract
    like normal
  • For example 10 cents 1 cent 9 cents
  • So a dime minus a penny is worth more than a
nickel, but less than the dime you started with

13
Subtraction of Coins
  • Another method of subtracting coins is to set up
the question like a Math problem
  • For example .25
  • - .10
  • .15
  • This method works well when subtracting numbers
that are too high to count

14
That was not so bad
  • Now that you are done with the informative part
of the lesson, lets move on to a few fun
    activities
