7General Requirements of ISO Position
- Fire Officer designation within sponsoring
department - FSDOA, NFA or equivalent Fireground Safety
Officer Training course completion - Knowledge in following areas
- Management of fireground operations
- Building construction
- Health safety officer hazards on the fireground
- Accountability and rehab procedures
- MABAS 10 policies and procedures
- Position requirements within NFPA 1521
8General Safety Principles
- Utilize ISO Checklist at all incidents
- Utilize or assign accountability board at all
incidents - ISO position must be filled at all box alarms
- General work safety rules will be applied to
incident by ISO based on their experience and
knowledge - ISO has authority and responsibility to halt any
unsafe act or condition present and will do so
immediately - General safety concerns shall be relayed to IC

- Respond to incident
- Report on radio to Division 10 that you are
responding as ISO - Arrive on scene and notify I/C
- Don PPE
- SCBA, 2 radios, handtools or personal equip.
- ISO Identification preferred
- Report to IC for briefing
