The Steroetype

• It seems that masculinity has to do with
• Buffness
• The way a man looks has a great deal to do with
  masculinity. A man with muscles is more appealing
  to the eye than a man with a beer belly.
• Control
• Masculine men must be able to control everything
  that is going on around him. He must not let a
  grouchy girlfriend, jerky boss, or annoying
  coworkers stand in his way. He must maintain an
  appearance of no emotion.
• Unemotional
• Masculinity seems to go hand in hand with the
  lack of emotions. A guy caught crying will often
  be told that he is sissy, or a little girl.
• Success
• Not only professional success, but every day
  success. A real man should be tough, aggressive,
  daring, and have physical strength.

• Their bravery showed the owrld how masculine they
  were
• Marlboro Man
• His gruff exterior makes women swoon and guys
  secretly desire to be like him.
• Fitness Machine Advertisers
• Nobody is going to buy a fitness machine from
  someone who is unfit, so advertisers are in the
  best shape to promote their product, even if
  their results dont come from the machines they
  are selling.

• Some feel that staying at home with the children
  is best left up to the women.
• Men are more traditionally the bread winners
• Gay Professionals
• Masculinity is the opposite of feminity.
• Gay men are often thought to be unmasculine
  because in order to complete the
  masculine/feminine balance, you need a woman.

  stereotype of masculinity.
• Im bothered by my frequent inabaility to see
  them, Mens Health magazine, or any fitness
  machine commercial without believing that unless
  I have 3 percent body fat, a hairless torso, and
  washboard abs, Im an inferior man (115)
• Being a Man
• Even the expression Be a man! strikes me as
  insulting and abusive. It means Be stupid, be
  unfeeling, obedient, soldierly, and stop
  thinking. Man means manly how can one think
  about men without considering the terrible
  ambition of manliness? (133)
