Standards Based Report Card
This is new!
  • Based on the standards from Georgia Department of
    Education
  • www.georgiastandards.org
  • Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and
Conduct are all included on the report card.
  • Assessed as exceeds the standard (4), meets the
standard (3), progressing toward the standard
(2), or does not meet the standard(1).

10
Standards Based Report Card
This is new!
  • A variety of standards are assessed every 9
    weeks.
  • However, some standards are assessed every nine
    weeks.
  • Only upper grades will send progress
    reports home.

11
Why Change from Traditional Grading Practices
  • When grades are averaged, children are penalized
for the initial stage of learning where mistakes
    are common and expected.
  • Grades are summative in nature and do not provide
the teacher or parent with specific feedback on
    progress.
  • Children may experience difficulty with a
specific standard, but the final grade will not
    reflect it.

12
Standards Based Report Cards in First Grade
  • Standards based report cards will provide
    stakeholders with
  • Clear expectations for parents and students.
  • Specific feedback on progress/achievement of
    standards.
  • Consistent accountability to high standards.
  • Multiple assessment opportunities to promote
    mastery of standards.
  • Assessment FOR learning, not OF learning
    mastery is always the goal!

13
4321 The Key to Academic Achievement
  • Lets start with Level 3 This indicates the
    child is consistently and independently
    demonstrating proficiency with the standard.
  • Level 2 indicates the child may sometimes meet
the standard but does so inconsistently or the
child is only able to meet with teacher support.
  • Level 1 indicates the child is unable to meet the
standard even with teacher guidance and support.
  • Level 4 indicates the child is able to move
beyond the expectation of the standard and apply
the skill in new situations or in connection with
    real life situations.
  • Caution The levels should not be equated with
grades! In other words, a 4 is not an A, 3-B,
    2-C, or 1-F.

14
