- Geographic Information Standards contribute to
the following GC IM Strategy Desired Outcomes - Mandatory standards that provide mandated
specifications, structures and procedures as well
as the expected level of compliance. - Shared understanding of and agreement on a common
description of the information assets of the GC
and their relationship with other architectures
and - Information standards for business
interoperability and information asset
preservation consistently implemented across GC

- IM Strategy Policy and Compliance
- The Treasury Board Secretariat Chief
Information Officer, Information Management
Strategies Division is responsible for the
development and promulgation of IM Policies,
Directives and Standards. - IMSD is the responsible Policy Centre for
approval of policy instruments including
mandatory standards. - IMSD is responsible for establishing GC IM
Governance - IM Strategy Enterprise Information Architecture
- The Treasury Board Secretariat Chief
Information Officer, Information Management
Strategies Division is responsible for the
Government of Canada (GC) Enterprise Information
Architecture which includes Information
Standards. - IMSD co-ordinates the identification of key
initiatives related to GC information standards
and facilitates collaboration on development and
implementation.

- The Standards Program
- The Treasury Board Secretariat - Chief
Information Officer, Enterprise Architecture and
Standards Division (CIOB/EASD) Standards Program
office is responsible for the Standards Program. - The Standards Program supports the processes
required to reach consensus on new standards and
their subsequent publication. - The Program also facilitates the harmonization of
multi-department liaison with the National
Standards System (NSS), other levels of
government, and other external international and
industry bodies.

Standards Program Office(SPO) - GCS 10040 Metadata Standard for Geospatial Data
- GCS 10041 Web Map Service Standard for
Visualization of Geospatial Data - EASD/SPO
- Completed review of submissions and forwarded to
IMSD/Policy and Compliance (IM Policy Centre) for
approval process oversight. - IMSD/Policy and Compliance
- Reviewed submissions with Policy Suite Renewal
Division for compliance. Once confirmed,
submissions will proceed to next steps. - Next Steps
- Policy Committee endorsement
- Policy Steering Committee sign off
- TBS Secretary approval
