  • Whos your audience?
  • Whats the objective of this exercise (the
    Project)?

Whos your audience?
  • A senior Business student who has taken all the
    basic economics courses
  • and
  • the APB course.
  • Someone who reads The Economist regularly.

Whats the objective of this exercise?
  • To see how you choose and focus on a specific
    problem.
  • To see how you critically analyze the problem.
  • To see how you use the materials presented in
    class to analyze the problem.

Critical analysis --- whats that?
  • Some essential components
  • the ability to focus on particular issues of
    interest which can be analyzed objectively.
  • the ability to present different opposing views
    on a particular topic.
  • the ability to take a stand and defend that
    position objectively
  • the ability to come up new ideas (very hard!!)

The Dos
  • Focus. Choose fewer questions/issues and do a
    thorough job. If you are having difficulty
    finding a focus, ask these questions to yourself
  • What stuck you about this topic?
  • What do you think is the most important idea?
  • What do you think the reader wants to know?
  • Are there any possible interesting angles that
    can be emphasized?

  • Ask one or more questions. We want to see how to
    you analyze a question.
  • Present opposing views and defend your view.
  • Use data and other evidences to substantiate your
    arguments

  • Start with an Executive Summary and a table of
    content.
  • Must have a structure (sections, sub-sections).
  • Graphs and charts must have numbers and titles
    and a mention of the source.
  • Mention all sources clearly.

The Dont(s)
  • Dont choose a very broad topic.
  • Dont give me a survey paper (very important).
  • Avoid any form of plagiarism. Beware of
    accidental plagiarism.
  • Dont give me a document thats full of
    grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.
