Title: MNHA Signaling for HA Unavailability

1
MN-HA Signaling for HA Unavailability
  • Brian Haley, Vijay Devarapalli, Deng Hui, James
    Kempf

2
Why?
  • Some reasons a signaling mechanism is needed
  • HA going offline
  • HA overloaded
  • HA address changing
  • Bootstrapping

3
Previous drafts
  • draft-wakikawa-mip6-nemo-haha-spec-00.txt
  • Defines a Home Agent switch message
  • A new Mobility Header type to switch a Mobile
    Node to another Home Agent
  • draft-deng-mip6-ha-loadbalance-02
  • Uses new Mobility Header type to send a single
Home Agent address to a Mobile Node
  • Previously used DHAAD
  • draft-kempf-mip6-ha-alert-00
  • Uses new ICMPv6 message to send multiple Home
Agent addresses to a Mobile Node
  • Each draft defines its own security required for
    messages

Proposed WG Draft
http//www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-haley-mi
p6-mh-signaling-01.txt
5
New Messages
  • New Mobility Header type from HA to MN
  • Signals to the MN that it wont serve the MN any
    longer
  • Suggests one or more alternate HA addresses
  • MN can pick the alternate HA from the message or
    perform bootstrapping/DHAAD again
  • New Mobility Header type from MN to HA
    acknowledging the above message
  • IPsec protection
  • RFC 3775 BU/BAck SA is used

Work Needed Yet
  • Add option for alternate HA addresses
  • Dropped when we were considering more general
    signaling
