  • Communications is a staff assignment in all CAP
    Units
  • and
  • an Emergency Services assignment.

    requires participation in Emergency Services.

Why Communications?
  • The aircrew has been briefed, but they may be
    rerouted, or new Intel needs to be forwarded to
    them, or they may have a clue or Find to report.

Unit Communications
  • Q. What do I need to get started?
  • A. Qualified General ES.
  • Completed CAPT 116.
  • Basic Communications User Training.

Basic Communications User Training
  • BCUT is a two hour computer based program.
  • It can be done here.
  • It can be used as a refresher course.
  • It is good for two years.
  • Application is made on CAPF 2a.
  • The BCUT Instructor will sign as requester.
  • SQ/CC or SQ/DC signs the approval.
  • Forward to CAWG/DC who will return the CAPF 2a to
    Group HQ for distribution.
  • It is the prerequisite for ACUT/MRO.

Advance Communications User Training
  • ACUT/MRO is an eight hour course and test. Upon
    completion you will have
  • A CAPF 76 with ACUT endorsement, which does not
    expire.
  • Same application procedure as the BCUT.
  • Mission Radio Operator.
  • An ES specialty in a Trainee status.

  • To receive a MRO Standard rating you must be
    evaluated by a Communications Unit Leader
    Standard.
  • Per CAWG Policy Letter 13 5Nov03
  • Your Unit Commander or ES Officer must approve
    your CAPF 100 electronically.

The Communications Patch
  • It is the cloth version of the Communications
    specialty badge.
  • Must have completed all the Technician tasks in
    Communications.
  • IAW CAPP 214, CAPR 100 and CAWGM 11-1 Chapter 6
  • Cadets can earn it too!

  • Obtain CAPF 76, Radio Operator Authorization.
  • Participate in one mission in any communications
    capacity.
  • Participate in one Communications Exercise
    sanctioned by CAWG/DC.
  • Actively participate in communications, checking
    into 25 of CAWG local (VHF) nets over at least
    one year. 60 check ins per CAWG/DC
  • Attend at least one communications meeting.
  • Successfully complete CAPF 43, Technician
    Communicator Test.
