How I Introduce it

• First day of class

• Have message from me waiting for reply

• Answer each email also incorporating information
  from information sheet
• Remind students to check email at next class

How I Use Email

• Set up distribution list for each class
• Send email every week
• Vary message type
• Require cognitive thought
• Occasional points for responses
• Provide important useful information
• clarifications
• additional resource options
• Congratulate class on accomplishments
• Give encouragement

Making Sure Students Use

• Near the beginning of the semester send an
  email which requires a thoughtful response
  regarding their work - worth 10 points
• Send important information via email like what to
  study for the mid term exam
• Regularly remind students to check email

End of Semester Wrap Up

• Connect email about challenges from first day and
  ask them to respond with three things they are
  taking with them at the end of the semester

Technicalities

• Occasionally a student isnt in the system
• Repeaters often have mailboxes too full to get
  messages on the first day

• Establishes method for communication available at
  all hours and from most places
• Can remind students about on campus activities by
  reminding them to check email
• Students often tell you something in writing they
  wont tell you in person
