What is a User Profile?
User Profiles
  • The User Profile contains personal information
about a users desktop and settings. Each user
has a unique Profile allowing set-up and
maintenance of settings according to personal
    preferences.
  • These settings include
  • Desktop arrangement (Wallpaper, icons, etc.)
  • Program settings
  • Network Drives
  • User profiles ensure that when you login to a
computer in the SRA Domain, the Windows interface
will look the same. You can still use all your
    software wherever you login.

What are my Personal Folders?
Personal and Public Folders
Personal folders are special folders that can
only be accessed by your login. You can make your
personal folders available to any user or you can
make them private so that only you can access the
files within them.
The My Documents folder is a personal folder
found in your workstation. Every workstation a
user logs in to has a separate My Documents
folder. It is part of the User Profile.

Another personal folder is the Home Folder. This
is denoted as Drive Letter W. This folder can be
accessed wherever you login to the network.

What are other Folders that I can access?
What is a PDF?

Network Printers
What are Network Printers?
Network printers are printers that have been
shared to any group of users defined in the
security settings.
FOR EXAMPLE
Computer A does not have a printer. The user can
print using the printer connected to computer B
if he has been granted access.

How do I communicate with other users?
Inter-office Communication
Inter-office communication provides real-time
communication between computers in other
departments or even other buildings. Users can
also send files that are attached to their
messages. The messenger will require you to lo
gin. This login is different from your network
login. Usernames and passwords for the Sonork
Messenger will also be posted by the Network
Administrator.

Centralized Security
To avail of the benefits of a network, it must
first be able to identify who you are. This is
done by logging into a Windows Domain.
Each user is given a login name with a correspon
ding password. No one else must know what your
password is.
8
How do I log on to the network?
Centralized Security
The User name and initial password is given by
the network administrator. On your first login,
you will be asked to change your password. No one
else is supposed to know what your password is!
Check that you are logging on to SRA Domain.
9
Centralized Security
Why is it important to keep my password a secret?
  • Your network login is the only way a computer can
identify who you are. If someone else knows your
    password they can
  • Access all your Personal and Public folders.
  • Open all your files.
  • Send computer messages under your name.
  • Basically, they can do everything that you can do
    in the SRA Network.

THE SECURITY OF YOUR FILES IS YOUR OWN
RESPONSIBILITY AND NO ONE ELSES!
