Loyalist Landing 225th Anniversary
225 years ago, 30 000 Loyalists arrived in Nova
Scotia more than 3000 of them were free Black
Loyalists. Birchtown was the largest Black
Loyalist settlement and, in 1784, the
largest settlement of free Blacks throughout the
British Empire!

Field School Format ANTH 3373.2 / 4464.2
Fieldwork in Archaeology July 14 August 1
Fieldwork Monday to Friday (8 - 430). For this
period, we will be living in Birchtown at Camp
Avalon. ANTH 3374.2 / 4465.2 Archaeology
Laboratory August 4 August 15 Laboratory
processing Monday Friday (9 230) For this
period we will be back in Halifax. The final
week of the course (August 18 22) will be
unscheduled to allow students suitable time to
complete research for their final papers. This
may include Lab-based artefact analysis, archival
research, etc.
