  • Getting started - discussion

2
The Egan Report Cultural Change
  • The advice offered to construction companies by
leading manufacturing industries is to approach
change by first sorting out the culture and then
defining and improving processes and finally
applying technology as a tool to support these
    cultural and process improvements. (Egan
    Report DETR 1998)

3
Movement for Innovation Live DebateRespect
for People
  • "The world of construction is founded on
adversarial principles through its continued use
of detailed and formal contracts to initiate
projects. It is our belief that only through
being able to have trust in those we deal with in
our daily business lives can any form of
partnership be established" (Richard Ogden, UK
Managing Director McDonald's and M4I Board
    Member).

4
Definition of Trust
  • We define trust as a willingness to rely on the
actions of others, to be dependent upon them, and
thus be vulnerable to their actions. We are
mainly interested in trust as it affects the
    willingness to co-operate.

5
Current Project
  • Exploration of the development of trust
throughout the construction supply chain by
  • Use of Social Network Analysis for identifying
    relationships
  • Measuring the level of trust
  • Identify behaviours that promote the development
    of trust
  • Trust-based partnering is achieved at the cost
    of performance.
