Influence of of air temperature rise on water
resources in forests

• Decrease of water resources due to
• - decline of snow cover duration,
• increase of ewapotranspiration.
• Direct effects
• drying of streams, lakes and water reservoirs,
• lowering of groundwater level,
• drying of soil.
• Indirect effects
• deterioration of ecosystems health,
• decline of forests due the pests and diseases
  (recently
• in polish part of Carpathian Mountains),
• degradation of forest wetlands.

General rules of water management in forest

• In order to prevent degradation of water
  conditions in forests it is necessary to
• maintain midforest bodies of water and
  watercourses in the near-nature state or their
  restoration,
• maintain the near-nature state midforest wetlands
  as moist content regulators,
• maintain in the river valleys floodplain forests,
  alder swamp forests and other natural formations
  as refuges of rare plant and animal species and
  as regulators of moisture content and local
  climate (microclimate),
• restoration of forests in the deforested
  fragments of mountain catchments and watershed
  zones,
• adjustment of management methods of water
  protecting forests to serve their functions
  considered as criteria to confer them the status
  of protective forests.
