Mission
  • VERMONT ASSOCIATION FOR MIDDLE LEVEL EDUCATION
  • Our mission is to support, encourage, and inspire
    middle level educators to develop programs
    designed specifically around the needs of early
    adolescence and practices which focus on learning
    for every student and which include a strong
    student voice.

Rationale for Appropriate Middle Level
Educational Opportunities
  • 50 of the tested population are in middle school
    grades 5, 6, 7, or 8
  • Greatest degree of physical growth since birth
    occurs during the ages of 10 14
  • This creates unique challenges for learning as
    competition between physical, emotional, and
    intellectual development occurs simultaneously.

  • To provide a network of resources for Vermont
    Educators
  • To publish important learning research and
    examples of best middle level practices
  • To support the implementation of the Vermont
    Framework of Standards and Grade Level
    Expectations in the context of early adolescent
    development, learning needs, and excellent
    programs
  • To serve as a resource to parents

  • VAMLE has a strong and vibrant history with
    lasting impact on program and practices best
    suited for the 10 -15 year old children in our
    state.
  • Chartered May 1987 by Dr. Chris Stevenson, Dr.
    Judy Carr, Dr. Carol Spencer, Joe Bowen and other
    statewide middle level teacher/leaders

    for all middle level Vermont school children and
    those who serve them.
