Biomedical Research Core Centers (P30)
RFA-OD-09-005

    only 1 per institution (NIAMS, NINDS allow 2 per
    institution) Our effort must be coordinated.
    Post online by Apr 22.
  • Amount Budgets will vary among participating NIH
    ICs. 
  • Project duration of up to two years may be
    requested. 12 page application
  • Purpose To support  the hiring of
    newly-recruited faculty to develop research
    projects within the context of Biomedical Core
    Centers (a community of multidisciplinary
    researchers focusing on areas of biomedical
    research)
  • Allowable Costs
  • Salaries and fringe benefits for
    newly-hired/promoted investigators (Asst Prof,
    tenure-track) at least 75 effort for Core
  • Start-up package, which may include equipment,
    supplies, salary support for technical personnel
    whose role is critical to relevant research
    projects within the Center, and support for
    core/shared services.
  • Research resources that facilitate a
    multidisciplinary approach to the Centers
    research.

Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in
Health-Related Research PA-08-190
  • Purpose.  This supports efforts to diversify the
    workforce
  • Letters of Intent Not Required
  • Application Due Applications can be received at
    any time
  • Earliest Anticipated Start Date Within six
    months of the receipt of the application
  • Eligibility Restriction Candidates must come
    from groups underrepresented in science,
    including individuals from underrepresented
    racial and ethnic groups, individuals with
    disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged
    backgrounds.
  • Students  Any eligible graduate student who is
    enrolled in a master's or a research doctoral
    degree program in biomedical, behavioral,
    clinical or social sciences. Students in medical
    school or other professional schools.   However,
    students who are currently supported on research
    or training grants may not be supported on
    research supplements. Funds Available and
    Anticipated Number of Awards  Expect more than
    1,000 administrative supplements under this
    program at a total cost exceeding 60 million.
  • Budget and Project Period  Direct costs from
    less than 5,000 to more than 75,000 depending
    on the career level of the candidate. 
  • Number of Applications Usually, a parent grant
    may support only one individual on a supplement.
     However, investigators are encouraged to recruit
    more than one high school or undergraduate
    student for support by a supplemental award.

NIH Requirement for SubmissionYou must have an
eRA Commons ID
  • To apply for NIH funding, you must have an
    Electronic Research Administration (ERA) Commons
    Identification Number.
  • If you do not have an eRA Commons ID, please
    contact the Sponsored Programs Administration
    Office ASAP at 212-263-8822 and they will create
    one for you.

SPA Requirements for Submission
  • 1) State your intent to apply for a Challenge
    Grant by April 15 or a P30 by April 22 at
    http//fundingproposals.med.nyu.edu/
  • Provide Your Department, PI Name, and (only for
    P30s) Proposed Core
  • This does not obligate you to submit. Online
    posting will enable coordination among
    investigators and departments, incl Facilities
  • If more P30s are being proposed than allowed, an
    internal committee will review and select, based
    on letter of intent
  • 2) Meet internal deadlines so that SPA can
    process applications
  • 7  business days before the sponsor due date for
    all except Science
  • 3 business days before sponsor due date for the
    final Science portion
  • Request a waiver if you cannot meet the SPA
    deadlines
  • Late applications without an approved waiver
    will NOT be submitted. 
  • All waiver applications must come to SPA Senior
    Director Ken Devaney at kenneth.devaney_at_nyumc.org
    only he can approve a waiver request.
