9At River Ridge, we believe that a strong
foundation in READING is the key that unlocks all
learning. For this reason, we take reading very
seriously!
10The Accelerated Reader Program is an integral
part of our reading program. Students are
monitored weekly to assess their reading level,
comprehension, and growth. AR start date will be
announced by the county.
11Accelerated Reader
- Students are required to meet three goals in
order to be on-goal for AR. - Students must maintain an 85 average for quiz
scores. - An individualized point goal is set for each
child based on his/her assessed reading ability. - An individualized book level goal is set for each
child based on his/her assessed reading ability. - The STAR test is used initially to determine
each childs reading level.
12Reading
Students are required to read daily at school and
encouraged to read additionally at home in an
effort to meet their goals. Students keep track
of their reading progress in their AR folder.

teachers website.
16Students have received agendas. These are kept
inside the binder and serve as a means of daily
communication between home and school. Please be
sure to sign your childs agenda nightly.
Failure to get the agenda signed will result in a
responsibility sign in.
17In addition to written correspondence, you may
feel free to contact us via e-mail or by using
the voice mail system. Our numbers addresses
are posted on the fourth grade website. Call RRE
at 706-447-1016.
18Signed Paper Folders
- Signed Paper Folders will be sent home each
Wednesday. - Review the information provided and sign.
- Signed paper folders should be returned on
Thursday, but no later than Friday. - If the folder is not returned (signed), your
child will receive a responsibility sign in.
19Grading Policy There are 2 categories for grades
Major Tests Daily Grades
20Major test grades include chapter or unit tests
as well as projects. These grades are recorded
twice and carry greater weight in the overall
average than do daily grades.
21Daily grades include worksheets, in-class pencil
and paper assignments, announced quizzes and pop
quizzes. These grades are recorded once and carry
less weight in the overall average than do major
test grades.
22Homework is assessed by the teacher for
completion each day and is checked by the student
for accuracy. It is viewed as practice which is
essential to the students success with content
material. Homework is NOT usually graded.
23Make-Up Work When your child is absent, it is
most beneficial to him or her to get the missed
work before returning to school. We will prepare
a missed work agenda to be picked up or sent home
with a sibling or neighbor.
24Grading Scale A90-100 B80-89
C73-79 D70-72F69
In the 4th grade, number rather than letter
grades are reported.
25Honor Roll
Students who maintain overall A averages each
term in L.A., Math, Science, and Social Studies
qualify for the A Honor Roll. Students who
maintain overall A and B averages each term in
L.A., Math, Science, and Social Studies qualify
for the A B Honor Roll.
26Classroom Management
We have found that positive reinforcement of
appropriate behavior and academic achievement
goes a long way in motivating student progress.
We want to insure that instructional time is
spent on instruction. Our plan is based on the
premise that Students will not interfere with
the instruction of the teacher. Students will
not interfere with the learning of other
students. No harm shall be inflicted on other
students in any way.
27Sign-ins
- 2 types
- Behavior (not following directions, talking out
of turn, not keeping hands to self, poor behavior
in restroom, hallway, cafeteria, at recess, etc.) - Responsibility (not completing homework, not
getting planner signed, not bringing supplies to
class, not getting AR folder signed, not bringing
back sign-in note, etc.)
28- If your child gets a behavior sign-in, his/her
teacher will staple a notice in the agenda for
you to sign. It must be returned the following
day or another sign-in will be given and a call
home will be made.
29- Students with 0 sign-ins will
- receive a weekly treat
- Severe disruptions will be referred to the
office immediately.
30Behavior Consequences
- 1 sign-in Warning
- 2 sign-insloss of 5 minutes of recess
- 3 sign-insloss of 10 minutes of recess
- 4 sign-insparent conference (via phone)
- Serious behavior issues will be handled by Dr.
Richardson or Mrs. Cox.
31River Ridge Behavior Plan
River Ridge is implementing a new school-wide
behavior plan this year.
32Students work together to earn cash that is put
in a classroom bank. Classes earn cash daily for
good behavior throughout the school. Classes set
a goal of either 100 or 150 and save until they
reach that goal. Upon reaching the class goal,
the cash in the bank is used to purchase a reward.
