Introduction

• Our universe is believed to be made of
  approximately 5 normal matter, 25 dark matter,
  and 70 dark energy.
• We know a lot about normal matter, very little
  about dark matter, and even less about dark
  energy.

Motivation for Dark Energy

• The Universe is expanding at an accelerating rate
• The Universe should be expanding at a
  decelerating rate
• There must be something else producing this
  accelerating expansion

Why Space?

• We can study SN from Earth already
• We can get clearer data outside of the atmosphere
• NIR
• Also, in space, we can look at the sky from a
  more stationary point, which is advantageous.

  study SN in order to learn about DE.

DESTINY Overview

• DESTINY plans to study type 1a SN
• Grism
• Photometry
• Spectroscopy
• DESTINY proposes to study SN at redshifts from
  0.4 to 1.7
• GRISiM

Analysis

• S/N
• Noise
• To get S/N, I used two images, one with noise and
  one without noise
• First, an image with noise is analyzed

• Then, with the noise-free image, the signal
  counts are summed
• Photometry
• Spectroscopy
