    you fail to do either of them on time, it is

Project part 3 syntax
  • 1. PP2 is better 6 full mark, but 6 missing.

  • worth a total of 50 points
  • due at the beginning of class Friday, October 19.
  • Objective create a brief syntactic grammar for
    your language.
  • use the words you invented in part 2 to create
    sample sentences,
  • and show how to produce a simple intransitive
    sentence, a simple transitive sentence, a Yes/No
    question and a WH-question(as in questions in
    English which require words such as who,
    what, when, where or how).

General instruction
  • Must use the phonemic inventory and syllable
    structure restrictions you outlined in Project
    Part 1, and the words and morphological processes
    you created for Part 2 (although you may correct
    and amend these based on the feedback)
  • Each word you create must be made up of
    well-formed syllables, according to your syllable
    structure rules, and of well-formed morphemes,
    according to your lexicon and morphology.
  • Your writing system must also be consistent with
    what you have proposed before.

Content and Structure
  • 1. Use the template provided on d2l for project
    part 3. Please delete those instructions such
    as basic word order here . This is a paper, not a
    list.
  • 2. Address each question as instructed.

Practice
  • A language like English but differs in the
    following way
  • 1. Basic word order OVS
  • 2. Use postpositions instead of prepositions
  • 3. Question formation
  • Yes/no invent a rule that is different from the
    real English.
  • Wh-question invent your rule.

  • Each of these sentences must be written out in
    the following format
  • Line 1 the sentence written in your language,
    using your orthography
  • Line 2 the sentence written in your language,
    using IPA, with morpheme boundaries indicated
  • Line 3 a morpheme-by-morpheme gloss (based on
    the IPA) of the sentence
  • Line 4 a free translation of the sentence
