2Fer-de-Lance
- The Fer-de-Lance is also called a Lancehead. It
lives to be over twenty years old. Adult
Lanceheads eat opossums, birds, rodents, lizards,
and smaller snakes. The common Lancehead is
probably one of the top twenty-five most venomous
snakes in the world. The Fer-de-Lance is usually
brown and reddish. When it is hunting it is
nearly impossible to see because it moves so fast
The Fer-de-Lance is my most favorite snake in

3Green Anole Lizard
The Green Anole Lizard eats fruit, insects, and
spiders. It has a thin body and a very long whip
tail. It lives in trees and woods in the
rainforest and has toes that help him stick to
trees and branches. It grows to be about eight
inches long. It is a mobile in sect eater! The
female buries eggs in shallow holes in the
ground. The Anole inhabits tropical and
subtropical America. The Green Anole Lizard is an
interesting lizard! Grace
4Hummingbirds of the Rainforest
Rainforest humming birds live in South America.
Some live in the mountains where it can be quite
cold. When they go to sleep at night the
temperature drops near freezing and they still
survive. The most interesting thing about the
humming bird is the bright color of their
throats. It seems to glow. Hummingbirds can fly
all different directions. They eat fourteen
hours a day and eat half their weight in sugar or
nectar. Hummingbirds like to do all that

5Keel-billed Toucan
The Keel-billed Toucan lives in the forest of
Belize. They are twenty inches long. They have
a huge yellow, orange, red, green, and black
bill. They eat fruit, insects, reptiles, and
birds eggs. They are the most interesting bird
of the rainforest. Connor K.
6Ornate Wood Turtle
The ornate wood turtle likes to live in the rain
forest. A girl Ornate Wood Turtle can be bigger
than a boy. Ornate Wood Turtles are usually
active creatures. They make their homes in damp
woods and scrubland. It lives near wet forests,
rain ponds, and moist areas. The Ornate Wood
Turtle is mostly red and black and the top of the
shell known as the carapace is light brown. In
the wild the Ornate Wood Turtle eats plant and
animals. They eat wild flowers, fruit, fish
worms, and insects. My favorite animal in the
rain forest is the Ornate Wood Turtle. Conner B.
7The Horned Frog heats insects, frogs, and snakes.
They will attack prey many times their size and
swallow them whole. Horned Frogs grow to be
seven inches long. Their horn is probably used
only to scare off predators. Horned Frogs can
live as long as fifty years. The Horned Frog is

8Macaws
The macaw is a bird that lives in the canopy in
the rain forest and it can live in the emergent
layer. They eat fruits, nuts and clay. Their
nesting season is from November to April. They
build their nest in the cavity of a tree. Macaws
eat a wide variety of fruit. They are known as
the Incredible Screamers. There are seventeen
recognized kinds. My favorite animal of the
rainforest is the macaw. Josie
9Red-eyed tree frog
The first thing you are bound to notice on this
amphibian are the bold bright red eyes. The body
is predominantly neon green but it is usually
splashed with other colors like blue or yellow.
The upper legs are usually bright blue and the
feet are orange or red. The coloration of this
tree frog is definitely eye-catching. The
red-eyed tree frog can change its color with its
mood from a darker green to a reddish brown.
These tree frogs have suction cup toe pads. The
males are smaller that the females. Thats why I
picked the red-eyed tree frog! Shelby
10Paradise Tanager
The Paradise Tanager is colorful. His belly is
black and he has red, purple, and green feathers.
It lives in the canopy of the South American
rainforest and grows to be five to six inches in
length. It builds a cup-shaped nest and it likes
to eat insects, fruit, and flowers. The Paradise
Tanager is sometimes called the gorgeous bird of
the tropics. This bird is very

11Jamaican Bats
Jamaican bats are usually brown and have gray
under parts. They lack an external tail. They
are brownish to gray and have four distinct
facial stripes. Their soft coat has a pleasant

12Crested Oropendola
The Crested Oropendola is a black bird that makes
a pendulous nest. The nest is placed high in
trees for protection from predators. The bird
has bright yellow tail feathers and grows to be
between thirteen and seventeen inches long. This
bird lives in flocks in South American rainforest
grassland coastal areas and marshes. It eats
tiny animals like insects and plant material. Eli
13Iguana
The iguana lives in may kids of places like
South America (Northern and Central). He eats
leaves, fruit and flowers. The iguana is big and
green and it has long sharp things on its back.
The iguanas babies, I think, turn green to gray
then turn dull orange. Some people have iguana
for pets. Iguanas are big, wild, green, and
cool. I like it very much. It is my favorite

14Rainforest Scorpion
Rainforest scorpions are just one kind of
scorpion. There are more than one thousand
different kinds of scorpions. The girl scorpion
kills and eats the male scorpion. Scorpions only
live up to seven years. The scorpion kills its
prey with its tail. It swings its stinger at the
prey from its back and poisons its prey by
stinging it. They mainly eat insects and

15Emerald Tree Boa
The Emerald Tree Boa is a green snake with white
bands. It lives in the trees and shrubs near
water. It is found in the lower Amazon Basin.
This snake has a life span of fifteen-twenty
years. The Emerald Tree Boa is a carnivore (meat
eater). The Emerald Tree Boa eats birds and
rodents. The Emerald Tree Boa grows to be a
little more than seven feet long. The Emerald
Tree Boa is very wide and interesting. Ken
16Tarantulas
Tarantulas are the largest spiders in the world.
They live in the tropical rain forest.
Tarantulas are bigger than other spiders. It has
two body sections. Tarantulas can live to be
twenty years old. Sometimes the tarantula eats
small birds. Their enemies are humans, large
birds, and snakes. The tarantula has a bad

17Leaf Cutter Ants
Leaf cutter ants come from the tropical forests
of Central and South America, and the southern
states of the USA. Each colony contains as many
as eight million ants. Most of the ants are
female workers. They dont eat leaves. Instead,
they use them to grow their own food. They
communicate by releasing pheromones. They are

18Jaguar
The jaguar is now found only in
Central America and parts of South America. It
has dark spots with a stocky body, short tail and
massive head. Jaguars are excellent swimmers.
They have a diet of forest animals from mice to
deer, with fish frogs, turtles and small
alligators. The female gives birth to one to four
cubs, which stay with her for two years before
leaving to find their own territory. Tyler
