These are Web Parts.
Web Parts hold your stuff.
There are different types of Web Parts for
different types of stuff.

5WEB PARTS II
The Content Editor allows you to type and format
any text that you want. You can also insert
graphics and tables in the Content Editor.
CONTENT EDITOR
LISTS
A List allows you to select the columns you want
to display. Similar to a spreadsheet for
information.
DISCUSSION BOARDS
Discussion Boards are where comments are posted
and responses can be made to the comments.
CALENDAR
A Calendar is a special list that you can display
as a chronological list of events or in a
traditional calendar format.
SURVEY
Surveys are where you can create questions and
define in what format the participates will
respond.

LIBRARIES
DOCUMENT libraries are used for collections of
documents or files that you want to share.
Documents have features such as folders,
versioning, and check out

PICTURE libraries are used for storing and
display pictures. Picture libraries have special
features for managing and displaying pictures.
You can set up thumbnails, download pictures, or
set up a slide show.

DROP BOX libraries are used as a place for
turning in documents. Versioning and content
control can be enabled. Columns can be set up as
needed.

WIKI libraries are used for interconnected Wiki
pages (collaborative documents). They support
pictures, tables, hyperlinks, and links between
the documents.

PAGE
Pages are used for displaying text, pictures, or
tables.
Sites are used for creating sub sites to your
master site. These sites can be customized the
same as your master site.

8PERSONALIZE YOUR SITE I
Click on Site Actions and you can get started
customizing things.

First lets put your name on the page. Click on
Site Settings.

Click on title, Description, and Icon.

Type your name here. Add a description if you
like. The school logo is the preset image Click
OK. Click on your tab to go back to your main
page.
12WHERE THE WEB PARTS ARE I
There are some Web Parts pre set for your
site. You can add to the pre set parts. Now we
are going to create a new Web Part for the
site. Click on Site Settings.

Your should be back on this page, Click Site
Libraries and Lists. This is where you select and
set up the web parts you will be using.

You can add more web parts by clicking on Create
New Content.

What type of Web Part do you need? Hard to decide
isnt it? Lets make a web part for
PowerPoints. Click on document Libraries.

Give the Web Part a name to identify it. Add
description. Set it show up on the Quick Launch
Bar. (select YES) Set Version History to NO. Tell
the site what type of stuff you will be putting
in this library. Document template is not
necessary unless you will be creating a document
directly on the site. Click Create.

And the site takes you to your new Web Part. Here
is your PowerPoint library. From here the
procedures for uploading documents are the same
as the older version of SharePoint, ( see PPT
Using SharePoint for help.) For now use your name
tab to go back to your home page.
18Adding Web Parts I
Lets add that new Web Part to your site. Click
on Site Actions, then Click on Edit Page

Click on either Add a Web Part tabs. For now we
will add the new Web Part to the left side of the
page.
20ADDING WEB PARTS III
Here is the Web Part you made. Select it and
click on Add.
You can see that there are Web Parts already
constructed for you.
21ADDING WEB PARTS IV
Voila! The PowerPoint Web Part has been added to
your site. You can click on Edit and select
Modify Web Part or you can click on Exit Edit
Mode to see the updated site.

Here is your updated web site.
23EPILOG
Watch for the next installment of SharePoint 3
for Real People. The new Web Part editing
features allow you to swap the parts from one
side of the page to the other and change the
order in which they appear. If you dont want
two columns on your site just move everything
into one column and it will be distributed across
the page. When you select Modify Web Part you
will find these feature in the Layout Tab. You
can also set the permissions for what your users
can do on the site. These features are under the
Advanced tab. Experiment with the site and share
your tips and tricks with the rest of us.
