• Traditionally a big travel weekend - an
  estimated 37.2 million Americans were traveling
  greater than 50 miles from home.
• AAA reported an estimated 680,000 Virginians
  would be traveling via motor vehicle over the
  holiday weekend.
• Mondays increase in numbers is an indicator that
  travelers are becoming more aware of the Virginia
  511 service and are using it in response to heavy
  traffic volumes and accidents. This point is
  further supported in the graph on the next slide.

Memorial Day Weekend Summary

• Memorial Day was an excellent example of the
  traveling publics increasing awareness of and
  willingness to use the 511 system in response to
  traffic events.
• At approximately 10 AM on Memorial Day a major
  accident was reported into the 511 system. The
  accident would eventually cause backups reported
  as 15 miles long and became a headline news
  story.
• As indicated on the graph at right, at the time
  this accident occurred there were no incident
  reports in the system. As the accident impacted
  traffic, and as other incidents were reported
  into the system, call volumes rose dramatically.

Verizon has agreed to terms to begin translating
the 511 dialing code, we expect this service to
begin on or about August 5th 2005. After this
takes place landline calls should become a larger
percentage of total calls.
