6TRS ActiveCare Considerations
- District is out of the Health Insurance Business
- Loss of flexibility in Plan Design and Rates.
- Insurance Committee input is limited to voluntary
products only. - The benefits department will not be able to
assist employees with claim issues (HIPAA). BCBS
policy is strict enforcement.

- TRS has undergone consistent benefit and or rate
changes since inception. - 2007-2008 TRS ActiveCare Benefit changes
- ActiveCare 1 Annual individual deductible rises
50 (from 1,050 to 1,100) - ActiveCare 2 Outpatient surgery co-pay of 100
in addition to the deductible and coinsurance
Inpatient admissions has a 100 co-pay per day
with a 500 per admission maximum in addition to
the 500 deductible and coinsurance - 7 rate increase for all PPO plans
- Once you are in you are always in you cannot get
out

- This summer the District went out for proposals
for Disability Programs. - By going out for proposals UNUM has agreed to
keep the premiums level for the Educator
Disability Plan. - No Accidental Death Dismemberment Benefit
- The 0/3 elimination period changes to a 0/7
elimination period

15Voluntary Half-Tablet Program
The UHPS Half Tablet is unique in several
ways -It is completely voluntary. -Members
choose to participate. -It respects the
physician/member relationship by requiring
physician involvement in the decision. -Medication
s are reviewed for certain clinical criteria and
must be deemed safe and appropriate for
splitting. -Members save between 150 and 300
annually.

- Thorough clinical review of medications to
determine appropriateness for the program - Members are encouraged to talk to their doctor
about the program and if it is right for them - The program is completely voluntary Members make
the decision to participate - The program includes convenient access to a pill
splitter to promote safe pill splitting
