ISS Front End Replacement (FEPR)

• Overview

Introduction

• Existing ISS FEPs are obsolete and must be
  replaced by FY08/09.
• ISS doing an IDEA-type implementation for FEPR
  with connections from an ISS FEPR Equipment Rack
  to the Space Network Low Rate Data Switch
• Level 0 processing of ISS S-band data moves from
  JSC to White Sands Complex
• Interface from FEPS at White Sands is via TCP/IP
• Interface from JSC to / from FDF is moved from
  4800 bit block serial to TCP/IP
• Communications among various FEPR sites is via a
  Private TCP/IP network over NTR backbone

• Private Layer 3 IP network over NTR backbone
• Three logical triangles
• JSC-WSGT-STGT
• MSFC-WSGT-STGT
• GSFC-WSGT-STGT
• A point-to-point link from JSC to KSC (no backup)

Operational Concept

• IP NOC will manage the FEPR Routers and the
  Firewalls used to connect the ISS FEPR Network to
  Open IONet
• A network probe managed by IPNOC will be
  installed at each FEPR site
• Each FEPR site will be connected to an OOB
  secured modem accessible only from IPNOC
• NISN Mission Security will perform IDS Monitoring
  at the connection to Open IONet

Current Status and Schedule

• Delta SDDR held in August
• SCP Factory Acceptance Test Underway
• NISN has tested Routers
• Equipment Testing at JSC is scheduled for Feb 07
• Installation of Racks at WSC is scheduled for Mar
  07
