15The Players are hard to control
- Try speaking to players/coaches first ..if
possible. First ask for help. If not received,
warn of consequences - Use the whistle, speak with the whistlePlayers
understand - Then go to ..
or
- But alwaysbe a good listener!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
16Advanced Beginner Referee Clinic
What about the sidelines? The fans, the
parents.
17 What can I do?
- Try to ignore themThe best solution and it
drives them crazy!!!! - If it is really affecting you or your teams job,
speak with the coach. - Ask for help from the coach to control fans
- Remind the coach that if it is not controlled
he/she could be cautioned/sent off, the players
deserve to play today. - If completely over the top/not controlled/doesnt
stop..terminate the game and write a report to
your assignor ASAP
18I have just sent someone off..Now what?
- Record all facts on your game card immediately as
soon as the offender leaves the field. - Number, Name (if immediately available),Team,
Offense, Time of offense, Against Whom, Facts
only!!!!! - Make sure you can get hold of player pass and
secure it . - Confer with your ARs on what happened. Facts
only! Write and send off report and submit
within 24 hours. - Submit report, player pass and game card to
assigning authority

31Advanced Beginner Referee Clinic
- After the game
- If there are questions amongst the referee team
and you can discuss them, do so - Be very very very careful about discussions with
coaches or players after the game. Best
advice.dont - Assess yourself on the way home. Review what went
right and what didnt and how you might do things
differently
32Upgrading
Why Should I ? How to do it?
- Recognition/respect (either publicly or as a
former ref Austin Ford once told me "to
yourself") of a level of accomplishment - Better/more preferred assignments. Increasingly,
assignors are basing assignments of referee
ability and grade. - The upgrade process really gives a referee a
chance to be objectively viewed/judged by an
experienced third party (assessor). This is a
valuable step for those really wanting to
improve their officiating skill toward a uniform
standard. - Local requirement to officiate super Y league
(assignor imposed) - Required if you want to instruct or assess (if
one uses the USSF recommendation for same)
33UpgradingHow do I do it?
- Grade 8 to 7
- Do 75 games as a center and 25 as AR
- 12 months as a grade 8 and gt17 years old
- 85 on entry level written referee test
- Pass assessment in a u17 or higher level
competitive match - Pass physical fitness test
- Go to www.d2sra.com (click assessment) to get all
the procedural information and a link to
assessment forms to see criteria on how one is
actually assessed.
