up to 3 minutes) to people presenting
prescriptions for CHD and diabetes especially
those who smoke, those who are overweight and
those with high blood pressure - Not just about handing out leaflets although
these do play a part

- Not just about today, not just tomorrow but
life-long changes - Healthy lifestyle advice in addition to
importance of taking medicines for CHD and
diabetes, as intended, could potentially result
in improved health outcomes

- Expect that pharmacists will want to use the
resources to effectively deliver
prescription-linked healthy lifestyle component
within essential services of the CPCF - Pharmacy contractors may wish to demonstrate how
these resources are being used as a means of
demonstrating to their PCTs their compliance with
the contractual requirements.

- Where contractors are not using these resources,
PCTs may ask for evidence of how the contractor
is delivering this aspect of this service. They
may need to identify what materials are being
used - Strongly recommend that these tools are used to
ensure that members of the public get advice in a
consistent manner throughout the country
20National/local public health campaigns
- Public Health Campaigns
- At the request of PCTs, pharmacists staff to
participate in up to 6 campaigns a year, to
promote PH messages

- Pro-active participation in national or local
campaigns as identified by PCT - If requested by PCT, pharmacists their staff to
record the number of people to whom the
information has been provided as part of the
campaigns

- Although PCTs can choose the campaigns they could
consider the following, for example - Stop smoking

- Alcohol
- Nutrition/diet
- Physical activity

- To determine the topics of the health promotion
campaigns, which reflect national/local
priorities - To provide appropriate support, such as patient
