departmental annual goals, tracking the results
of planning in your unit, or serving directly on
the institutions Strategic Planning Council, we
will achieve more if everyone takes
    responsibility for planning.
  • The MSU Strategic Planning Council has
    representatives from across the institution,
    including faculty, staff, students, and
administrators. A current list of representatives
can be found on the Strategic Planning website.

Institutional Goals
  • The institutional goals are grouped into the
    following categories
  • Goals related to Students and Student Enrollment
  • Goals related to Academics
  • Goals related to Faculty and Staff
  • Goals related to External Relations
  • Goals related to Needs and Uses
  • Goals related to Institutional Planning
  • A complete list of the Institutional Strategic
Goals can be found on the Strategic Planning
    website.

5
Implementation
  • Goals are implemented through Action Steps in all
the units across the institution. Action Steps
are the actual and concrete actions undertaken in
    the unit to fulfill goals.

6
Measuring Progress
  • Evaluation of the success of the unit in
acquiring a goal is measured by gathering
    information and evaluating that information
against the units (and institutional) Key
    Performance Indicators (KPI).

7
Progress and ImprovementClosing the Loop
  • Planning leads to progress when the evaluation
information is used to move the unit toward its
goals, improve efficiency, and/ or make
    adjustments and improvements in programs,
    processes, and/or services.

Planning CalendarWhen do we plan?
  • Planning at MSU takes place on the academic
calendar. The planning process begins in spring

    15th.
  • Units receive feedback on their goals from the
SPC and have time to revise their plans with
final plans due on September 15th.
  • All unit plans will be posted to the Strategic
    Planning website by October 1
  • Unit reports are evaluated by the SPC and posted
