Shape and Size of Leaves
  • Most of leaves are very small
  • Most of them are green at that time
  • Some leaves have drip tips
  • Some leaves are broad

Characteristics of woodland in Hong Kong
  • - Occupying 40 of land in Hong Kong
  • - Having similar characteristics of tropical
    rainforest
  • - Distributing broadly
  • Wide variety types of plants
  • - Lots of evergreen plants

9
Problems against Woodland
  • Deforestation
  • More CO2 and less O2
  • Causing global warming
  • Hill fire
  • Many occurring around Ching Ming Festival
  • Therefore woodland becomes less and less.

10
Causes of Problems
  • Not enough land
  • Logging to get land for commercial and industrial
    uses
  • Not having enough money
  • Selling timber to earn
  • People being careless
  • Causing hill fire
  • People being selfish greedy
  • Deforesting in a high rate

11
How do these problems affect our lives ?
  • Burning the forest putting a great amount of
    ashes into the atmosphere
  • Poor air quality
  • Air pollution
  • Causing respiratory diseases
  • Large rate of increase

12
  • Deforestation
  • Decreasing in oxygen production in the world and
    less photosynthesis occurring
  • Leading to global warming
  • A rise of 2? may double the frequency of typhoons
and increase the power of typhoons by 50.
  • May lose many potential food and drugs

13
Solution for the problems
  • Banning illegal logging
  • Seriously restricting cutting down of trees
  • Dont throw away burning matches or cigarette
    ends to the woodland
  • May cause serious hill fire under dry weather
  • Dont light fire balloon.
  • May destroy woodland and threaten lives and
    properties

14
  • During grave sweeping,
  • removing weeds around the grave by hand-tools
  • burning joss sticks and paper only in containers.
  • Never burn rubbish, weeds or grasses!!!
  • When the Yellow or Red Fire Danger Warning signal
being present, take extra care to prevent hill
    fires.
  • If you see a hill fire, leave the fire scene
immediately, and then ring 999 to report the
    fire.

15
  • Deforestation can only be solved if people stop
    wasting resources.
  • Controlling population size
  • Less people, less timber would be used
  • Massive deforestation would be slowed down

16
Best use of woodland
  • To carry out photosynthesis that absorbs carbon
    dioxide and releases oxygen
  • Hence woodland makes air fresher
  • Dense forest can protect the soil from erosion
  • Trees on hills can prevent landslides in rainy
    days

17
  • Birds and animals live there and have
    reproduction
  • Many potential food and medicine could be found
    there
  • Timber is the material for making furniture

Feelings
We think we have learnt a lot in this
project. We know much about the trees and leaves
as well as the problems against woodland.
Lets tell you some funny things! On the
visiting day, one bird excreted on one of our
members hand. We all laughed at him. How
amazing! Finally, we all think that
doing this project increases our knowledge and
interests of forests. Therefore we want to do
this kind of project again if we have the
chance.
