Paul Earnhart
  • Invitation to a Spiritual Revolution, p. 46
  • The subject of divorce can fill the heart of a
preacher with dread. More than two- thirds of
the preachers for Americas largest Protestant
denomination recently admitted that they had
never spoken on the subject. The issue of
divorce (and remarriage) touches the lives of men
and women intimately and often painfully.

6
  • yet those who come to the kingdom must not
expect that any part of their lives will escape
the influence of the King nor should they desire
it since His commands are not arbitrary (1John
    53) but are always for our good (Deuteronomy
624). However agonizing this teaching may be to
us, there is no place for the true disciple to
    hide from its implications.

7
Matthew 531-32
  • Furthermore it has been said, Whoever divorces
his wife, let him give her a certificate of
divorce. But I say to you that whoever divorces
his wife for any reason except sexual immorality
causes her to commit adultery and whoever
marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.

8
  • Matthew 191-12
  • Mark 101-12
  • Mark 1012
  • And if a woman divorces her husband and marries
    another, she commits adultery.

9
Luke 1618
  • Whoever divorces his wife and marries another
commits adultery and whoever marries her who is
divorced from her husband commits adultery.

10
Kenneth L. Chumbley
  • The Gospel of Matthew, p. 105
  • To marry someone whose divorce was not occasioned
by their spouses infidelity is to enter an
    adulterous relationship. . . .

11
  • The only reason why this remarriage can be
regarded as adulterous is that the first marriage
is still in Gods sight regarded his inviolate.
Illegitimate divorce does not dissolve the
marriage bond and consequently the fact of such
divorce does not relieve the parties concerned
from any of the obligations incident to marriage.
    . . .

12
  • They are still in reality bound to one another in
the bonds of matrimony and the marital relation
or any exercise of the privileges and rights of
the marital relation with any other is adultery
    (Murray, 25). . . .

13
  • God, not a civil court or the couple involved,
has the final say about marriage and divorce. The
marriage is not over until He says its over (see
196-9 Mk 1012 shows that Gods law governing
divorce applies equally to women). . . . The one
who marries a wrongly divorced person becomes an
    adulterer.

14
Galatians 519-21
  • Now the works of the flesh are evident, which
    are adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
    lewdness, idolatry greed, covetousness,
    sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies,
    outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions,
    dissensions, heresies, envy, murders,
    drunkenness, revelries, and the like

15
  • of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also
told you in time past, that those who practice
such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

16
1 John 52-3
  • By this we know that we love the children of God,
when we love God and keep His commandments. For
this is the love of God, that we keep His
commandments. And His commandments are not
    burdensome.

17
Stephen
  • Acts 744-60
  • Stephen was murdered for telling the truth.
  • Galatians 416
  • Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell
    you the truth?
