Not a New Problem
  • First Century Problem
  • Sexual sin was common, tolerated and customary
  • No laws to stop the behavior
  • No Christian culture to act as a barrier.

14
The Bible Answer to the Problem
  • Principles of Holy Living
  • 1 Thessalonians 41-3Finally then, brethren, we
request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as
you received from us instruction as to how you
ought to walk and please God (just as you
actually do walk), that you excel still more. For
you know what commandments we gave you by the
authority of the Lord Jesus. For this is the will
of God, your sanctification that is, that you
    abstain from sexual immorality

  • Your sanctification
  • hagiosmos separate, set apart, holy
  • 1 Peter 29But you are a chosen race, A royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people for Gods own
possession, so that you may proclaim the
excellencies of Him who has called you out of
    darkness into His marvelous light

    proper among saints

20
  • Colossians 33-6For you have died and your life
is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is
our life, is revealed, then you also will be
revealed with Him in glory. Therefore consider
the members of your earthly body as dead to
immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and
greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is
because of these things that the wrath of God
will come upon the sons of disobedience,

21

  • Romans 622, 23
  • But now having been freed from sin and enslaved
to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in
sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.
  • For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift
of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
