Title: Attendance

1
Attendance
  • If a student is absent on a day assigned OJT or
Internship and the absence is unexcused, the
    periods assigned OTJ/Internship will be
    considered unexcused as well.
  • Students must leave campus immediately at the
beginning of their first assigned OJT/Internship
period. They are not allowed to hang out on
campus. If a student is required by a
faculty/staff member to be on campus during his
or her assigned OJT/Internship time, the student
must let Mrs. Barlow or Ms. Pattermann know prior
    to the scheduled OJT/Internship time.
  • It is the parents/guardians responsibility to
ensure their child has appropriate transportation
to ensure their child is able to leave campus
during OJT/Internship hours. Failure to follow
this guideline will result in the student being
removed from the OJT/Internship program and
placed in a class. If there are not enough class
periods left to receive a grade in
  • the class, the student will receive a failing
    grade in OJT/Internship.
  • Students will remain in the classroom with the
coordinator during the first week of school.
Professional work ethics and interview skills are
two topics that will be addressed/covered during
    this period.

  • Pay Verification
  • Each month, the student must submit a copy of
his/her current pay stub (the due dates are the
same as the time card due dates).
  • If the student does not receive a pay stub with
his/her paycheck (or is paid by direct deposit),
the student must see the coordinator for an
alternate form to be submitted in lieu of the pay
    stub.
  • Reminder OJT/Internship jobs must be paid by
checkthey cannot be a cash, under-the-table job.
(Appropriate taxes, such as Social Security,
must be taken out of the students paycheck.)
  • Evaluations
  • Each semester, the coordinator will visit the
employer and ask the employer to complete a
grading sheet and assign a letter grade for the
    students OJT/Internship experience. This
evaluation will be factored in as part of the
    students OJT/Internship grade (See grading
    rubric).

5
Time Cards
  • Beginning the first day of school, students will
complete a monthly time card. Time cards are due
    on the following dates
  • September 6th
  • October 6th
  • November 6th
  • December 6th
  • January 11th
  • February 6th
  • March 6th
  • April 5th
  • May 10th (Seniors)
  • May 24th (Juniors)
  • As an example, a students September time card
will include hours worked September 1st through
September 30th and be due on or before October
6th. There is a more detailed listing of due
    dates on the following page.
  • It is the students responsibility to allow
enough time for his or her supervisor to sign the
time card (on the front and back) and to complete
the short evaluation on the back of the time
    card.
  • Late time cards will result in a lower
OJT/Internship grade (see grading rubric). Time
cards must be completely filled out or will be
returned to the student. The date the completed
time card is turned in will be the date used for
gradingnot the original date the incomplete time
    card was turned in.

6
Changing Jobs
  • If a student changes jobs, the student must
    notify the OJT/Internship coordinator within
three business days of the change.
  • The student is to give the employer a minimum one
    week notice (written/typed letter of
    resignation).
  • A copy of the letter must be given to the
coordinator within three business days of
notifying the employer (points will be deducted
for not following this policysee grading
rubric). The letter will be kept as part of the
    students file.
  • A new Confirmation of Placement by Employer (as
well as a new training agreement) is required
within three days of starting the new job or
points will be deducted from the students grade
    (see grading rubric).
  • Termination
  • Should a student be fired from his/her position,
the student has one week in which to locate a new
position and submit the necessary paperwork
    (confirmation form and training agreement).
Should the coordinator agree with the reason for
the termination, the students grade will
automatically be lowered two full grades.
  • If a student is terminated a second time during
the same school year, the student will receive a
failing grade in OJT/Internship and be placed in
a class in his or her cluster for the remainder
    of the school year.
  • A layoff (or down-sizing) by a company will not
result in a lowering of the students grade. In
the case of a layoff, the student still must find
a new position but will have two weeks in which
to find a new position (and submit a new
    confirmation form and training agreement).

7
Violating a School Policy during OJT/Internship
Hours
  • Should a student violate a school policy during
the students scheduled OJT/Internship time, the
student will incur consequences dependent on the
    type of violation.
  • For example, OJT/Internship students are only
authorized to drive/ride with students who are on
the students transport form. Should a student
    during his/her OJT/Internship period transport a
student off-campus that does not have
authorization to leave campus (and is not on the
    OJT/Internship students transport form), the
student may be removed from the OJT/Internship
program and placed in a class for the rest of the
    school year.
  • ISS/OSS
  • If a student is in ISS, the student will not be
able to be released early from ISS to go to work.
It is the students responsibility to call
his/her employer and notify the employer that
he/she will not be able to report for work until
the end of the regular school day.
  • If a student is assigned OSS, the student is not
permitted to work until after the end of the
regular school day. It is the students
responsibility to call his/her employer and
notify the employer that he/she will not be able
to report for work until the end of the regular
    school day.

8
Job Guidelines
  • The job selected must be a paid position (except
    authorized Internship positions) whereby the
student receives a paycheck and has appropriate
taxes deducted from the students pay.
  • The students supervisor may not be a parent or
    guardian.
  • If a student is not in school because of illness,
he/she will not be permitted to work on the day
    of the illness.
  • The student must work a minimum number of hours
per week (based on the number of periods assigned
    OJT/Internship) as follows
  • One period..7 hours
  • Two periods12 hours
  • Three periods.15 hours
  • Four periods20 hours
  • For Internship, the students job must be within
the students cluster. For OJT, the students
job is not required to be within the students
cluster. OJT students must have a job secured
    prior to starting OJT.
  • The students job must comply with the Child
Labor Laws (a current copy is included in this
packet). Should you have a question about the
Child Labor Laws, please see your coordinator.
