SWIS Data How was it used?
  • Information on behavior, location, time of day,
    students sent, and staff members sending were all
    used to determine where our strengths and
    weaknesses were. Modifications were made based
    on results of data.

School Climate Surveys
  • Parents, teachers, and students were surveyed.
  • Parent and teacher surveys were almost identical
  • Student surveys were somewhat longer, but also
    contained age appropriate language. Student
    surveys were read aloud to the students. Two
    classrooms from grades two, three, and four were
    randomly chosen
  • Parents surveyed were those whose children were
    surveyed
  • All teachers were surveyed
  • Surveys contained questions about caring, rule
    fairness, rule consistency, safety, and overall
    school climate.

    satisfied with the safety and school discipline
    at Keene
  • 99 are satisfied or very satisfied with the
    school climate at Keene
  • A large number of parents feel that teachers and
    the principal care about their children.

    applied fairly and consistently

  • A significant number of parents feel that
    students are at least somewhat bullied in the
    school
  • Only 44 of parents feel that the students care
    about each other to a large extent
  • Only 27 of parents feel that students respect
    one another to a large extent

  • 97 of all teachers were satisfied or very
    satisfied with the safety and discipline at Keene
  • 97 were also satisfied with the school climate
    at Keene
  • 97 of teachers feel that teachers and the
    principal care about students in the school to a
    large extent

  • 53 of teachers feel that students threaten or
    bully other students at least to some extent
  • Only 31 of teachers feel that the consequences
    for breaking the school rules are consistent
  • Only 34 of teachers feel that students respect
    each other to a large extent

positive, but there are some areas, specific to
different grade levels that need to be addressed
in the future

  • Overall, students feel very safe while at Keene
  • 96 of all students feel that the teachers care
    about them and 92 feel that the principal cares

    felt that the PAWS were rewarding

    and bully them in school

School-Wide Evaluation Tool (SET)
  • The school rules and principles were adequately
    posted and students and staff members are aware
    of the rules.
  • Students received PAWS on a regular basis
  • A system was in place for responding to
    behavioral violations
  • The PBS program including discipline procedures,
    reward procedures, rules, and principles needs to
    be formally put down on paper and administered to
    staff members and parents.
