Managing Drought for food security in eastern

Introduction
The lives and livelihoods of hundreds of millions
of people will be affected by what is done or not
done in communities with regard to climate change
over the next 5-15 years. Besides lacking money,
they have limited access to education, suffer
from poor health, have little political weight,
and are vulnerable to all manner of external
shocks.
The Objective of study
To understand how local farmers are using
indigenous knowledge and skills to improve
hundreds of hectares of land in order to mitigate
the effects of climate change.
Field observations
Diversion ditch/cut off drain a graded channel
with a supportive ridge or bank on the lower
side. Constructed across a slope and designed to
intercept surface runoff and convey it safely to
an outlet . Retention/infiltra
tion ditches large ditches designed to catch and
retain all incoming runoff and hold it until it
infiltrates into the ground .
Conclusion
By adopting these measures farmers underscored
the need to maximize the potentials of dry season
agriculture in order to boost food security,
alleviate poverty, restore lost top soils and
reduce point pollution of water sources from
farms.
