Professionals (CDMP)
Recommendations for a higher quality
- The last two years in Germany were focused on
qualifying Certified Disability Management
Professionals (CDMP) by the NIDMAR - Curriculum - The international forums were mainly focused on
the philosophy, policy and strategies of
Disability-Management - The examination and the quality of a
Disability-Manager were less important
Now we want to come up with the discussion for
more quality of the examination

- Knowledge and experience of CDMP
- What is really necessary ?
- - 9 areas of competencies and more?
- Tests and qualifications
- - is it possible to test the qualifications
only by a multiple choice test ? - - should we add other examination parts
(practical or oral) to the multiple choice
test? - - only in case of failing the multiple choice
test or as a normal part of the examination?

- qualification tests compared with other
professions - lets have an active discussion about these topics
- we should have an international agreement
- the training will continuously be up-dated
- therefore the examination methods must be on the
agenda as well

7Examinations of Disability-Manager CDMP in
Germanyresults
8300 multiple choice questions
- the international examination is a written test
with 300 multiple choice questions - the questions have to be answered in not more
than 7 hours - one out of four questions is correct
- two groups of experts transferred the questions
in German language and legislated as well as
extended the questions out of the 9 areas of
competencies for CDMP - these questions will be adopted to changing
legislation and new practical challenges in
Germany
9The examinee should know the methods of
Disability- Management
- The guidelines demand that the examineeknows the
methods - We ask,
- can the examinee really prove his knowledge of
methods of Disability - Management only by a
multiple choice test? - can the social competencies of the CDMP be found
out by a multiple - choice test? - can the occupational authenticity be considered
by a mulitple - choice test?
10Angoff - Score
- each examination question is given an
angoff-score - only the angoff - score points out the difficulty
of the examination - the two groups of experts decide on the angoff
score in any single question - only the angoff - score determines the passing or
failing of the examination
11Advantages of multiple choice method
- Advantages
- the multiple - choice- method assures objectivity
- internationally comparable
- same standard
- easy handling
- the test can be reproduced
- Disadvantages
- the examination cannot individually be referred
to the candidate - many right answers can be guessed
- you cannot test the real abilities of the
candidate
12Unequal conditions with the multiple choice -
test
- candidates experienced in multiple-choice-tests
are favoured - candidates with a lot of experience in
Disability-Management but inexperienced in
multiple-choice-tests are disfavoured
13Suggestions to improve the international
examination of CDMP
- we recommend an oral examination as a second part
of the examination - with this additional part the CDMP is able to
proof her/his competencies/applications of CDMP -
methods in practice - the personal abilities are testable
- this own professional individuality of the CDMP
can be tested by talking to each other
(colloquium?) - the professional and ethical behavior is testable
more differentiated
14The examiners dont know the examinee
- Disadvantages
- by the multiple - choice test the examiners dont
have contact with the examinee - Advantages
- by introducing a practical part into the
international examination the examinee contacts
the test committee and can balance her/his good
and bad presentations - the examiners get to know the examinee and they
are able to judge him personally - To note!
- (but subjective decisions can be legally a
problem)
15Disadvantages of a practical examination
- the result of the examination depends on the
individual point of view of each committee member - objectivity can be a problem
- every practical examination is different and
cannot be reproduced -
16Oral examination
- another option to improve the quality of the
examination is an oral test - the examinee can pass the examination with an
additional oral test only in case of failing the
multiple choice test - or
- an additional oral test as a standard examination

We suggest The International Disability
Management Council (IDMSC) should discuss the
following topics
- the examination questions
- the angoff - score
- the methods and number of the examination
questions - a practical part of the examination
- an oral part of the examination
- the evaluation of the examination results

professional Disability Management (IAPDM)
- coordination of international interests of CDMP
- development of the philosophy of Disability
Management theoretically and practically with
competent Disability - Managers - discussion about the occupational standards of
CDMP
19Health and contentment
- Where health and contentment are missing, wisdom
cannot become obvious, art cannot find any
expression, strength cannot fight, wealth
becomes worthless and wisdom cannot be
