Why it failed
  • The Sega Dreamcast, a videogame console
manufactured by Sega, was released in 1999. It
failed in the market because of the pending
release of the Playstation 2 and X-box. Many
developers didnt want to make games for
Dreamcast fearing that no one would buy them
because they would be waiting for the next
    generation consoles to be released.
  • Sega did not feel they could keep up with the
other companies and so they dropped their support
on the Dreamcast, like they have in the past with
    their previous consoles.

4
Why it failed
  • A big reason why dreamcast failed in producing
money was that it was prone to piracy. A
self-boot cd was made and it allowed games that
were copied onto CD-Rs to play on the
    Dreamcast.
  • Sega stopped the production of the Dreamcast in
March of 2001 after losing over 150 million in a
    6 month period.

5
What they could have done
  • If Sega could have waited they could have used
upgradeable hardware, like a computer, on the
Dreamcast I believe that it could have competed
in the market. Its true that Dreamcast was the
first console to support online play, but with a
56K modem. The PS2 and X-Box also support online
    play but with broadband capabilities.

Conclusion
  • All in all Sega just kept getting beat in the
market. With the failures of Game Gear, Saturn
and Dreamcast, Sega Enterprises lost a lot of
money. This ultimately forced the into a Software
company so they could develop games on all the
    other consoles.
